Microsoft Outlook is a solid email and calendar app for Android and iPhone. However, it is ideal for those investing in Microsoft’s ecosystem of apps and services, not those who use Gmail and Yahoo email accounts. If you want to exit the Outlook for Android app, you should weigh your options wisely.
Microsoft Outlook isn’t just limited to email. The company has also integrated contacts and calendar functionality. While this is a value add-on, you may want to keep the contacts and calendar separate from your email.
While the Microsoft Outlook apps work well on iOS and Android, sometimes things are complicated or nonexistent. Key features like fingerprint verification and categorizing emails are missing.
1. Gmail
The Gmail app comes as a pre-installed Android phone and often comes up as a natural option.
The app is packed with all Gmail-centric features like rich filters, automatic suggestions, spam protection, and more. Our biggest gripe with Gmail is the interface that remains consistent. However, you will see a hamburger menu on the iPhone to scroll through the labels and other options.
Along with all the features, Smart Typing offers automatic suggestions to complete sentences. Outlook offers a similar feature, but is limited to Outlook web only.
Account switcher from profile icon is a feature that every user appreciates. You can switch between email accounts in the app by swiping up or down on the profile icon in the top right corner.
Other features include integration with Google Tasks to send an email directly to the task management app, shortcuts for other Google apps, dark theme support, and more.
2. Spark Post
Spark Email is one of the cleanest looking email apps out there. The app uses a beautiful white+blue theme with relevant options at the top. Once again, it relies on a hamburger menu, not a submenu bar, to get things done.
Those who lack Outlook’s Focus Inbox feature will find themselves at home with Smart Inbox in Spark Mail. Organizes the Inbox and only shows you relevant emails. Smart Inbox neatly categorizes emails in relevant sections such as Personal, Notifications, Newsletters, Pins and Seen. This is very missing in Outlook mail.
Email templates are an interesting addition. It allows you to create frequently used template messages to save time while sending similar email messages to people on a regular basis.
Other features include email signature, themes, email viewer option, fingerprint protection and more. Spark email is completely free to download and use.
3. Yahoo Email
Although its relevance is not as influential as it was years ago, Yahoo email remains the top choice for thousands of users. The new email app looks modern and offers theme options right from the start.
The app provides all the relevant options at the bottom for easier access. It works perfectly with third-party apps like Yahoo, LinkedIn, Dropbox, and Google Drive.
The Yahoo Email app is full of giant banner ads on the home screen and not many will like it. And there is no way to remove them with a buy option. Unlike Outlook, Yahoo doesn’t try to do too many things at once. It focuses on email and excels there.
Other features include multiple theme options, email signature, block images, fingerprint protection and more.
4. myMail
myMail supports a long list of email service providers such as Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, Hotmail, Exchange, AOL, my.com and more.
When you add an email account, the app will take a lot of time to sync emails. After that, it’s a pleasure to use, with bottom navigation and a clean UI. Iconography and theme options are in place.
Ads are minimal and cleverly hidden under the menus and do not come across while using the app. The app comes with different theme options, mail folder, address book and more. my.Mail also supports fingerprint authentication, a feature not available in Outlook.

5. Email Lighting
As the name suggests, Email by Editon software claims to be the fastest email app on the market. It offers a Focused Inbox add-in similar to Outlook and prioritizes the inbox itself.
The email app comfortably beats Outlook with a built-in assistant. Tap on the hamburger menu at the top and you will find an Email that manages all your emails in the relevant categories like Subscriptions, Travel, Packages, Bills, Entertainment and Refund Alerts. It’s easy to find an email you’re looking for, and we wish every email app would clearly copy this feature.
It also comes with multiple themes, custom signatures, fingerprint lock, templates, color coding and more. Email lightning is free to use, which is surprising considering the number of features on offer. We wouldn’t be surprised if the paid plan is included in the future.
Get Rid of Outlook on Android
