Dematerialization continues in SNCF and RATP. After virtualizing mainline train tickets, SNCF is expanding this pass to public transport in the Ile-de-France region. In the effect, soon it will be possible to buy tickets from the SNCF Assistant app available on Android. All lines managed by the Ile-de-France network are supported. There are of course metros, trams and buses, not to mention the RER, which can be accessed with a T+ Ticket. Note that Orlybus and Roissybus tickets are also supported.
Single tickets (or tickets) are not the only tickets involved, as there are also Navigo packages. Please note that only weekly and monthly plans are offered in the app. Annual Navigo pass unaffected. But it makes sense that it’s soon. Thanks to the integration of RATP transport tickets, the SNCF application is now the most complete in its category, since it has already made it possible to buy and validate an SNCF ticket (except TER), order a VTC, find car sharing or rent a car. electric scooter.
Smartphone purchase and verification
Acquisition is not the only innovation introduced in connection with RATP. The SNCF Assistant also allows you to: validate virtual transport tickets from a smartphone. The only prerequisite for this to work: the phone must be equipped with an NFC chip (it applies to the vast majority of mid-range models and all flagships today). To do this, simply point the back of the phone to the location of the Navigo cards in the access doors. According to SNCF, validation does not require the application to be open in the background. And even better, verification works even if the phone is empty or turned off. But not all smartphone models will be compatible, although management does not specify which ones.
Some additional restrictions can be expected on some smartphones. Not all carriers’ SIM cards will be compatible (at least initially) and sometimes an additional extension will be installed (like Wizway’s, for example, which is pre-installed on Samsung’s NFC-compatible smartphones since early 2019). Finally, a little info Apple customers: they just don’t worry. If Apple refuses any company to circumvent Apple Pay, the purchase of transportation tickets or packages will be disabled there. Validation of headers might get there, but not in the first place.
