Street View: Google will completely remove the application on March 31, 2023

Google Street View

Obviously Google is purging these apps right now. A new application is getting ready to say goodbye to Mountain View, which has definitively shut down its Hangouts messaging service and switched to its new Chat solution. The information comes to us directly from 9to5Google, who took a deep dive into the APK of the latest version of Street View on smartphones.

Although the service is available directly on Google Maps, the latter also has a dedicated application on Android and iOS and was therefore recently updated to version 2.0.0.484371618. However, this update may be one of the last updates. In fact, a message is already hidden in the application’s source code, announcing that the application will die in just a few months.

Street View app disappears but remains in Google Maps

According to 9to5Google, we can read the following message: “The Street View app is disappearing. The app will be retired and support will end on March 21, 2023. Upgrade to Street View Studio to publish your own 360 video. Use Google Maps to view Street View and add Photo Spheres. » Therefore, users will have two different options to continue their Street View experience.

The first is Google Maps, which has already integrated the application for several years. The second is Street View Studio, which allows you to manage your captured videos. Photo Paths, on the other hand, will disappear completely. Since this year, this feature has allowed anyone to enrich Street View content by uploading their own photos taken with a smartphone.

Google has not yet made a statement regarding the closure of the application, but considering the date specified in the APK, an official announcement is expected not to take long.
