Spigen Rugged Galaxy Note 5 Case Review

The Spigen Durable Capsule Galaxy Note 5 Case is a great yet simple option to protect the Galaxy Note 5 with minimal added thickness or weight, while being affordable and looking good too. Despite the “rugged” name, this is a standard slim TPU case that provides ample protection for those concerned about dropping or damaging their new phone. This is our Spigen Rugged Capsule Note 5 case review.

Galaxy Note 5 features a large 5.7-inch Quad-HD display with strong Gorilla Glass 4 on the front to prevent scratches and is also the first Note to feature an all-glass and aluminum design. This means it looks great, but can take more damage if dropped. That’s why there are so many great cases available, including many different options from Spigen.

Like so many cases lately, the Spigen Rugged Capsule for Note 5 has a slightly raised lip that wraps around the front of the device and protects the screen when dropped or face down. It’s also slightly raised around the protruding camera to protect its new 16-megapixel camera. Read on for a few details, a short hands-on video, pictures, and a buy now link for anyone interested.

The Galaxy Note 5’s new glass and aluminum design means it’s pretty slippery and can fall more easily than some previous Samsung devices. However, it’s not as slick as the iPhone 6 Plus or other major smartphones. Not to mention it has curved edges on the back that make it easier to hold and more comfortable in the hand.

If buyers are a bit like me, they will still choose to sue to protect their new $700 investment. Spigen has a wide range of options, as we mentioned above. They come in different sizes, colors, textures, some with real aluminum buttons to truly maintain the premium feel, and even wallet and support cases at the end.

I chose to go with something more minimal. Instead of explaining it all, watch our hands-on video below. It shows users the box, all buttons, ports, cutouts, and a simple slide-in method to install this case. It is a typical TPU case that is easy to install, thin, light and offers excellent protection without adding weight.

As you can see above, the Spigen Rugged Galaxy Note 5 case features a soft-touch matte black TPU design that is comfortable and easy to hold. Then there are two carbon fiber cutouts for a subtle shine in the highlights and added style. This serves no purpose, but makes it look better overall.

The precision design means it fits like a glove, won’t bend when dropped, and the buttons and cutouts are all perfect. Many cheap TPU cases on eBay or Amazon are not precision cut and the buttons are not very tactile or easy to press. That’s not a problem here, and if anything, it makes it easier to push them than if there’s no case at all.

Overall this is a very well made and durable holster from Spigen that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. It’s the perfect midpoint between inexpensive TPU cases and more expensive options that offer the same level of protection.

Ultimately, it’s everything we mentioned above that makes Spigen a great option. Fits like a glove, looks good, and protects the screen and camera. And it does all this for under $10. In fact, it’s on sale for today $9.99 at Amazon.
