The Samsung Galaxy S6 has been around for more than a few months, and in August the new Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus were launched. So what’s next for Samsung? Galaxy S7. With a possible Galaxy S7 release in 2016 still months away, some early reports and rumors are already starting to emerge.
A new Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Active has surfaced in a few rumors, not to mention that smaller budget devices will fill the 2015 lineup, but the device consumers are interested in is the Galaxy S7. It will arrive in 2016 and will take on all Android competition with the new iPhone 6s.
We’ve heard recently that Samsung is looking to speed up development and launch flagship phones faster than usual; this was evident with the Note 5 arriving more than a month earlier than everyone expected. However, rumors have turned to the Galaxy S7 dubbed “Project Lucky” and we have all the details about this new phone, a 5.7-inch model and more after the break.
The latest rumor on the street is that Samsung will continue with the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note approach, but will also offer two Galaxy S devices similar to Apple’s iPhone lineup. What that means is that in 2016 Samsung launched a 5.2-inch Galaxy S7 and a larger 5.7 or 5.8-inch Galaxy S7 Plus, and then a new Note later in the year, just like they’ve done over the last five years. It means you can put it on the market.
That’s all said, more than one new this week Galaxy S7 rumors emerged from solid sources that gave us a few ideas of what could happen after the new year. SamMobile has confirmed that the codename is “Project Lucky” meaning lucky #7 is Galaxy S7. Thanks to insider information, some leaked benchmarks that could be fake, and a few other details, this rumor has a lot more to share.
According to the first leaks, the Galaxy S7 is being tested with the new powerful and efficient 8-core Exynos 8890 chipset, which is much faster than the Galaxy Note 5 and comes at 2.3 GHz. The phone will likely get a 4GB RAM boost similar to the Note or even come with 6GB thanks to the new tech.
That’s not all. Other rumors suggest that Samsung will offer a regular Galaxy S7 alongside the larger 5.7 or 5.8-inch Galaxy S7 Plus with a 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD display, or Sony and others will aim for a massive 3k or 4k resolution display. Rumors also mention that Samsung may switch from its own in-house processor to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, which is expected to launch in early 2016 and will be the most powerful mobile processor to date.
What about micro SD cards? As millions of buyers know, the new Galaxy S6 and Note 5 have abandoned micro SD cards in favor of a premium design. And while the new Galaxy S7 will likely use Samsung’s new blazingly fast USF 2.0 technology for the internal 64 and 128GB options, the Galaxy S7 could give consumers the option to add a micro SD card to expand storage. The two are currently unable to work together, but Samsung is reportedly working on a fix and returned the micro SD card in 2016.
And finally, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Note 5 beat Apple in the best smartphone camera category of 2015. That’s not enough though, and things are constantly changing, and SamMobile is announcing a brand new, bigger, faster, more advanced 20-megapixel ISOCELL camera. the sensor can output inside the S7. The camera will also have a project called “all lens cap” but we have no idea what that is. Maybe a lens hood that opens with the camera, similar to some point-and-shoot cameras. Your guess is as good as ours.
For now, it looks like Samsung may push for a much earlier Galaxy S7 release in 2016, consider February instead of April. Unleash two phones, one larger than 5.8″phablet” size screen, return the micro-SD card and improve the camera. Of course the new premium design language will likely make a comeback, but from now until when it actually launches next year, everything could change. These are very early rumors and we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more details as they emerge.
