Samsung Galaxy S7 Active: What You Need to Know

We’re talking about the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active, and here we want to review what we believe will be the Galaxy S7 Active release date, along with a few things potential buyers should know.

In the last 2-3 years, Samsung and partner carriers such as AT&T or Sprint have released “Active” or “Sport” models of their latest flagship devices, but with an even more industrial design. The Galaxy S6 Active was tough, durable, self-tapping screws, and IP67 dust and water resistant.

The new Galaxy S7 is one of Samsung’s best smartphones to date. It has a great design, a great camera, improved battery life, a micro SD card, and IP68 dust and water resistance. After learning about this last feature, many thought that the Active series would disappear, but thanks to recent developments, that doesn’t seem to be the case. newly leaked photos and information. Read on for more details on the upcoming Galaxy S7 Active.

Shown above is a relatively recent photo that has been leaked, and obviously an upcoming Samsung smartphone. Following the trend we’ve seen over the last two years at AT&T and Samsung, we’re almost certain this is the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S7 Active. It has a familiar solid frame, camouflage design and a slightly different look from current Galaxy devices.

While Samsung has yet to share any details about a potential Active version of the Galaxy S7, that’s exactly what we’re seeing here today, and it makes sense since they’ve been releasing one for the past three years. Here’s what we know so far.

Galaxy S7 Active Leaks and Rumors

Until a few weeks ago we didn’t know anything about the Galaxy S7 Active except for some minor reports that, based on past history, it’s coming soon. But today, we now have brand new photos (and official affairs) confirms its existence, as well as reveals new features, color, and even a possible launch or release date.

Below is an image of the Galaxy S6 Active from 2015 for comparison. It has a durable design, rubberized edges, and dedicated hardware buttons that are easier to touch when hands are wet, dirty, or when users are wearing gloves. Whether you’re at work or out for some extreme sports. We’re talking about this because it’s a direction that, among other things, could change this year.

A few weeks ago a site called SamsungVN received a series of photos showing the Galaxy S7 Active. At the back we see the AT&T branded phone, fully designed with its rear casing and even a quick glance at the front. One big new aspect is what appears to be a fingerprint scanner, but more on that below.

The leaker didn’t have many details to share apart from the photos. However, we have information based on previous versions that should give us a good idea of what to expect in the coming weeks or months.

Galaxy S7 Active Features

Popular leaks from VentureBeat to add even more fuel to the Galaxy S7 Active rumor fever shared more information this week, photos and a possible release date.

It wasn’t as high-end as the regular option, as we saw in the early Active models, the Galaxy S4 or even the Galaxy S5. Last year’s Galaxy S6 Active was exactly the same as the Galaxy S6, but with a few extra features and a bigger battery. Most likely the same will be true this year. If so, here’s what we hope to complete this phone.

Back in 2015, the Galaxy S6 Active was exactly the same as the regular model, but with a massive 3,500mAh battery compared to just 2,550 in the regular Galaxy S6. It also came with a more robust design, water resistant, and the fingerprint scanner was removed in favor of dedicated hardware buttons.

With the all-new Galaxy S7 Active for 2016, Samsung needs something that will differentiate it from past models while keeping it close to par with the Galaxy S7. The photo below reveals what the first Active with a fingerprint scanner looked like. We also hear that it is 1mm thicker to house a massive 4,000mAh battery. This could be a sign that a similar large battery will be in the Galaxy Note 6.

The details and specs above are nothing more than speculation at this point, but it makes sense given what we’ve seen from this partnership in the past. Not to mention that it was reported by a trusted leaker. The photos below reveal what appears to be aluminum and rubber edges to complete the design of this phone.

Galaxy S7 Active Release Date

In 2014, the Galaxy S5 Active was announced and confirmed by Samsung and AT&T on June 12 and launched shortly after. Last year, the Galaxy S6 Active was launched on June 12, which is earlier than the previous model.

So what does that mean? Samsung and AT&T adhered to a similar time frame, but released each model earlier than the previous year.

If that’s the case, the new Samsung Galaxy S7 Active will likely be announced in May and launched in early June. It likes best on or around June 10. That was a few days ahead of most, and the leaked image above says June 10 in the screen placeholder inside the phone. This is usually a sign of when a phone will show up.

Other details

Looking at the photo below, we can see that the new Samsung Galaxy S7 Active should be very similar to last year’s model and have many of the same buttons. On the left edge is the volume rocker and a dedicated “Activity Zone” button that AT&T calls an outdoor companion with a one-stop-shop for tons of extra features.

Last year, the Activity Zone button gave users instant access to the compass, flashlight, stopwatch, weather, barometer and all the usual Samsung S-Health fitness tools. Activity Zone steps taken, run, distance covered or calories lost. Then let you use the heart rate sensor on the back to check heart rate, heart rate, stress levels, blood pressure and more. We expect the same in the Galaxy S7 Active and more this year.

From what we can see, there will be volume keys and Activity Zone hotkey, a power key in the top right and a micro SD and SIM slot in the bottom right. Then on the front are hardware buttons for back and recent apps, and the home button can double as a fingerprint scanner. Other than that, we don’t know much about the details.

We also see a rubber-wrapped phone for greater durability and additional thickness and a much larger battery for IP68 water resistance. If everything we’ve heard is true, this could be an impressive phone with 2-3 days of battery life.

If history tells us anything, the Galaxy S7 Active will look a lot like the regular S7, have the same features and options as the Galaxy S6 Active, and will launch in June. Stay tuned for more details.
