Samsung has issued a global recall on the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone due to a faulty battery that could catch fire and possibly explode. The company worked quickly to resolve the issue. New replacement models available in the US from September 20 and now verizon and sprint they are both officially reselling the Note 7. Here’s what you need to know.
Just a week after the release date, multiple reports have surfaced of devices catching fire, exploding, and more. Allegedly One Note 7 burned a jeep. It’s a dangerous situation, but Samsung has been upfront about it from the start.

On September 15, Samsung officially launched a new website with all the details. This page has Galaxy Note 7 recall replacement information, a tool to check the IMEI for faulty products, help, phone numbers to call, and more.
The new and secure Galaxy Note 7 smartphones will be available from September 21 at all major carriers and retail stores in the US. Samsung has officially announced this date and advises all owners to replace their phones.
We initially heard that the new Galaxy Note 7 release date is over a month away. set for October 21, but that is not the case. Verizon will sell the Note 7 to everyone as we speak both online and in stores, and Sprint is taking orders online as well. Initially only replacements were available, but the Note 7 is back for everyone. Buy without worry as it is approved for use by the appropriate channels.
Of the 2.5 million devices apparently produced, around 400,000 were sold in the first few weeks. So the number of new devices needed to replace already sold phones is not as high as we all think. Samsung has already shipped new models to carriers, giving $25 gift card or credit on user bill and trying to fix all issues.
This is good news and a great start from Samsung. Yes, it’s been a few weeks since the recall, but that’s a quick turnaround. Being able to settle in, straighten out manufacturing and be able to produce 500,000 new models and ship them to carriers is impressive. Although there are around 100 reported cases of fire or device explosion in the US alone, Samsung has handled this well from the start.
How to Know If Your Device Is Faulty?
When new models are released on the 21st, users will want to make sure it’s safe. If it’s coming from a retail store, it should be fine. To check, follow the steps below and remember that this will let you know that the new model is safe.
First, Samsung’s website has a tool to make sure the device’s IMEI is faulty or to double-check new units and make sure they’re safe. More details on the three different ways to control your Galaxy Note 7 can be found here.
Users can enter a device-specific IMEI code that will control the database. Find it on the box label or go to Settings > General Management > Status > IMEI to find the number. Next, we hear that multiple different visual differences can be seen in the box. Below is the new sticker on all new Note 7 devices, new case phones will have a large black square on them as shown below.
Next, the software update changes the battery status indicator in the notification bar and other locations from white to green. This will show that the phone is new, safe and approved for use. This update hit Verizon phones yesterday so there shouldn’t be any issues with the new version of the Note 7.
