Facebook wants more interaction between its apps (Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram) and today Messengers is making a big splash on Instagram. Now users of both apps can communicate with each other, which will greatly reduce usage.
When someone sends you a message on Messenger while you’re browsing Instagram, a small bubble from the second app appears on your screen, superimposed over the photos you’re viewing. That makes sense, because Messengers and Instagram are two different apps. But not anymore: An update is currently being rolled out worldwide.
Messenger features available on Instagram
On the main page of the social network for photography, we find the messages icon at the top right. It takes the form of a small arrow. With the update, this icon is replaced by that of Messenger (small bubble). If you press on, Facebook offers to merge your two accounts. Beyond cross-app communication, this merger brings the functionality of Instagram’s Messenger, such as the ability to send selfie stickers or watch video content in sync. Remember, Instagram will still have its own messaging app if you prefer.
Facebook is currently working on a merger between its apps. For example, the company has established the Account Center, This allows you to save your preferences across all the company’s software, whether it’s settings or banking information. So the merger of Instagram and Messenger messaging is completely consistent with this logic.
If you don’t have access yet, it shouldn’t be too long before the update rolls out today.
