Messages: Google launches first useless beta that crashes as soon as you launch it

Google Messages is finally eligible to receive its first public beta! Finally, before we steal the tocsin, we’ll reveal one major drawback: the app doesn’t work – it crashes as soon as it’s launched, so We recommend that you do not install. The Android Authority team explains that they tested the application on all smartphones with exactly the same results. Question to ask: Even if we have to expect bugs during beta releases, the user still needs access to a vaguely functional program. What could have happened with Google to make a beta program unusable?

Google Messages crashes as soon as it launches: a surprising fiasco from the developers

Cody, one of the readers of Android Police, suggests that this beta version can only work with a newer version of Google Play Services that is not yet available. Dylan Roussel, one of the 9to5Google contributors (his tweet is at the end of the article), explains for his part that after reviewing the app’s source code, the developers seem to have neglected a small piece of code. The “pie” is an oversight, so to speak: a class called by the program, BugleOpenBeta_Application, not available in this beta version. As a result, this causes an error that prevents the program from starting.

In any case, one thing is for sure: the Google developers explicitly compiled the package and brought it online, without the hassle of launching it to check if everything is OK. If you find yourself facing this issue, there is only one solution left: remove the APK from the beta and download the stable version of the app from the Play Store while you wait for a new beta to come out. Google Messages replaces Android Message as the default SMS app. This messaging is also compatible with the new RCS protocol introduced by Google, including in France.
