LG G4 Edition: Everything We Know So Far

The brand new LG G4 release date is almost here. We know exactly what’s going to happen when LG announces the new G4 later this month, not to mention a major leak this weekend that has revealed almost everything, after slowly releasing information by LG that teased some aspects of the phone over the past two weeks.

Between all the details, leaks and rumors from LG itself, and then the big leak from a microsite by LG over the weekend, it all becomes clear, and below we’ll go over everything we know so far and possible buyers. will need to know about this new smartphone.

Back in early February, the new LG G4 smartphone was somewhat confirmed by LG after some early rumors, and all of this will be put to rest soon when they officially announce the new device. With a release date fast approaching and more and more teasers released by LG, here we cover a few things buyers need to know about the LG G4 release.

Last year the LG G3 was announced in late May, and more than a month later, it fell far behind the competition. However, this version was earlier than the G2 before it, and the G2 came even earlier than the original Optimus G. In 2015, LG is doing the same thing again, releasing the new LG G4 earlier than the previous model. The launch is officially set for the end of April.

Live in six countries and at an event in New York City on April 28, LG will officially unveil the new LG G4 smartphone, which aims to beat the new Galaxy S6, HTC One M9 and even the Moto X with some new leather designs and more. . Design

The design remained a bit of a mystery as multiple leaks suggested a few different things. We’ve seen images of a curved smartphone, leaks pointing to an all-metal design to fight the iPhone and Galaxy S6, but now we know that’s all wrong. A major leak this weekend confirmed that the LG G4 will be shaped almost the same as last year, but with many new features and designs that will set it apart from last year’s model.

The new LG G4 will stick to the same thin bezels around a 5.5-inch device, improving the camera and keeping the buttons on the back. It will still be made of plastic like previous versions, but this year they introduced six new leather back options. Similar to the Moto X skin, only LG keeps the back removable so users can replace the battery or expand storage with a micro SD slot.

The LG G4 will be available in three primary colors: Black, White and Gold, with a new diamond-shaped design to the brushed aluminum look (but still plastic) housing. Then there will be real genuine leather options in six colors. We’re not sure if these will be offered on optional backs you can buy or directly from the carrier racks. Most likely both will be available as separate purchases from LG’s store, but we’ll have to wait and see.

It’s all said and done, it will have almost the same design as previous years, just with some changes to the look, textures and finish. You’ll still get sleek bezels, buttons on the back, and a single rear-facing speaker. We were hoping for a little redesign but maybe that will happen in 2016.

Rumors have been floating around lately about what to expect from LG in the all-new G4 for 2015. curved screen Similar to the LG G Flex 2 and others have claimed it will have a smaller 5.3 inch display with an extremely high 3k resolution display. However, that does not appear to be the case. The screen will be the same 5.5-inch size as the last model, but much better.

Last week, LG announced its new 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD display. It’s the same size and resolution as last year’s LG G3, but they promise big improvements. According to the LG press release, this new 5.5-inch Quad-HD display has achieved a “quantum leap” in color gamut and brightness. The new LG G4 display will be brighter, with extremely rich and striking colors. Moreover, it is more efficient and easier on battery life. Provide enhanced touch functionality and sensitivity while being thinner.

It features new, advanced In-Cell Touch technology that allows it to respond to touches even when there is water on it. Finally, it is expected to display more accurate colors than last year’s QHD panel on the G3, offering a 120% color gamut, a 50% contrast increase, and a 30% brightness increase. It may not be as good as the Galaxy S6, but we’ll have to wait and see.

All this means that the slightly faded screen of the LG G3 has been removed and those looking forward to the LG G4 can be assured that it should have one of the best smartphone displays on the market. Of course we’ll have to see it first, but LG promises a lot of improvements this year.

Skin, Battery and Micro SD Slot

In keeping with the design direction above, the leak this weekend confirmed some key details that have worried a few potential buyers. Samsung ditched the removable back that lets you swap out a micro SD card for more storage and replace the battery, and most LGs would do the same. Fortunately, they didn’t.

The leak has confirmed that the LG G4 will have a large removable 3,000mAh battery, micro SD slot for storage expansion, and all this is possible because the back will still be removable.

And as you can see above, there will be leather options, while the back is still plastic. We’re seeing six different colors so far, but that may change when the April 28 announcement arrives. We’re not sure which carriers will have what or whether LG will sell them separately, but we’ll find out soon. If the lack of a removable battery and micro SD slot bothers you on the Galaxy S6, wait for the LG G4.

Camera

Speaking of specifications, an extremely important aspect of any smartphone is the camera. The LG G3 had a decent 13-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization and has launched a new laser autofocus that promises some of the best camera performance on the market. It was great, but the new Galaxy S6 with the F1.9 speed camera is one of the best of any smartphone to date. Most phones are above 2.0 with f-stop, which is the speed of the sensor and how well it captures details and light.

Today LG is making fun of an all-new F1.8 camera for the LG G4. The newly released video by LG is pretty short, but it teases that the camera has to be perfect.

With its F1.8 camera lens, the LG G4 should shoot incredibly fast and accurately, be great in low light conditions, and could prove to be one of the best smartphone cameras of 2015. Add in laser autofocus and optical image stabilization, and that looks very promising. That will be the 16-megapixel camera, and the front will be upgraded to an impressive 8-megapixel shooter.

Features

While the specs are just numbers, some still want to know what’s to come. It looks like we’ll see a 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD display, 32GB of storage and micro-SD slot, 3GB of RAM, a 16-megapixel camera and a 3,000mAh battery. The processor is actually listed as the Snapdragon 808 6-core processor, not the 810 in the HTC One M9. This uses two high-power chips. One is a high-power dual-core chip for heavy-duty and an efficient quad-core chip for everything else. It also promises excellent performance while increasing battery life.

It should be faster, smoother, last longer, and run the latest version of Android. We’re not sure if this will be the 5.0.2 Lollipop or Android 5.1 announced in March.

Accessories and Wireless Charging

Earlier LG G smartphones had wireless charging, but not all carriers were getting it. It was exclusive to the Verizon model with the G2, but the new G4 seems to fully support wireless charging. A microsite leak has revealed the popular Flip-cover circle case, wireless charging dock and more on the G3.

Users will be able to wirelessly charge the device with many 3rd party options or LG’s own charger, and the round case illuminates a round portion of the screen for quick movements while protecting the device. Answer calls, operate the camera, and more without opening your bag.

We’ve seen most of these accessories from LG before, but they’ve also been confirmed for the G4 launch. The case comes in multiple colors and will likely replace the back of the phone and will be a leather and clamshell case and all-in-one battery cover in one package. Similar to Samsung’s flip cases.

Release date

Another important aspect of this phone is its release date. The HTC One M9 and Galaxy S6 hit carrier shelves in the US on April 10, so LG will have to make a splash and catch buyers’ attention, or at least wait to see what LG has in store. In the video above, they confirm that the all-new LG G4, which matches previous reports, will be announced on April 28.

Unfortunately, at this point, we know almost everything about this phone except the release date. It will be announced on April 28, likely coming to all four major carriers in the United States, but we’re not sure when.
