HTC One M9 Android 6.0 Update: 3 Things to Know

Back in December, HTC made good on its promise of porting Android 6.0 Marshmallow to the HTC One M9 before the end of the year, but that was only for a very select few users with the unlocked model. But Sprint spotted it back in February, and now we have three key details for other owners waiting for the HTC One M9 Android 6.0 Marshmallow update in the US.

Earlier in October, Google released the Android 6.0 update, and the HTC One A9 was the first non-Nexus device to run the new software. HTC has been slowly pushing updates here and there, but now they’re finally ready to roll out to the US on all fronts.

Over the past few weeks we’ve seen Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates for both the HTC One M9 and the older HTC One M8. And while not all carriers get it, most have one or the other, and users don’t have much time to wait. Read on for the good news about Verizon, T-Mobile, and now AT&T.

Initial reports directly from HTC, and even some rumors, suggested that the HTC One M9 Android 6.0 update will be rolling out to all users around January. As we all know that has not been the case and they still have not delivered for most owners in the United States. That will change this week.

HTC One M9 Verizon and T-Mobile Updates

Yet over the past week or two, a lot of information has emerged from leaks and HTC’s own employee at Twitter, Mo Versi. HE confirmed two important updates It’s Friday and more details are coming soon. For those who wait patiently, the latest news is below.

Owners of the Sprint HTC One M9 started receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow in February, but it took more than 2 weeks to be available to all owners.

Then, as you can see above, Mo confirmed that the HTC One M9 Android 6.0 Marshmallow update launches on February 16 for both Verizon and T-Mobile. Unfortunately that’s all we know at the moment and the Verizon HTC One M8 has never been mentioned, but should see it later. Sprint and certain M8 owners already have it, but that’s it for now.

According to Mo, the updates will launch on February 16 for both Verizon and T-Mobile, but that doesn’t mean all users will get it tomorrow. It may take 3-5 days or even longer. Some might get it right away or this late night, while others might see it show up over the weekend. This slow arrival is to ensure there aren’t any critical issues or bugs, but given that the Sprint update went smoothly, others should too.

AT&T Update Out Now

As of now, this means all major US carriers except one are set to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the HTC One M9. The AT&T M9 update has never been well mentioned. We heard about late January in December, but that never happened. We are not sure the reason for the delay, but Mo Versi did point out that there is a minor problemI hope we learn more about this soon and the update begins.

Starting May 12th, AT&T HTC One M9 and One M8 are getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the latest features, bug fixes and security patches. it was Certified by HTC’s own Mo Versi. He thanked the owners for their patience and confirmed that he would start on the 12th. Many took it last night, but others can wait for it to surface over the weekend.

Owners of the One M9 can expect lots of minor changes. Google Now on Tap with Google’s new Doze feature from long pressing the home button, improved performance with permission controls, better voice controls and longer battery life. Not to mention Android Pay and more. This is a big update, even if the software doesn’t look very different.

Android 6.0.1 Updates

It’s worth noting that this looks like Android 6.0 Marshmallow just arriving this week, not the latest Android 6.0. There are only a few minor changes, security fixes, and more emojis so it’s not a big deal, but it’s still something users should know. This version won’t be the absolute latest, but it’s still Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Mo concluded his tweets by stating that the HTC One M8 T-Mobile update is in the lab for final testing and the HTC One M9 for AT&T is still being tested. Expect more information on both before the weekend. Owners can go to settings > about phone > check for updates starting tomorrow to try and get Android 6.0 Marshmallow right away.

The AT&T version is most likely Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and now users can start looking forward to Android N. Google launched it in March and will be officially confirmed next week, with a release earlier this summer. Stay tuned for more details.
