Over the past month, we’ve seen multiple HTC One M8 devices receive updates to Android 5.0 Lollipop, not to mention Android 5.1 Lollipop for the Google Play Edition, but original HTC One M8 owners are probably wondering when they’ll get it. It has the same software and features as the newly released HTC One M9.
In November, Google released the first Android 5.0 Lollipop update, and shortly after its arrival, the HTC One M8 and the original HTC One M7 Google Play Edition handsets received the new software. However, the regular version had to wait a few months, and HTC missed its initial goal of all owners getting it by February. We are now in April and almost all US carriers have delivered Android 5.0 and AT&T finally made it available last week.
While Google and HTC are busy rolling out the original Lollipop update to HTC One M8 users, owners are already looking forward to when they will get HTC Sense 7.0 alongside the next major software update. Below are a few additional details about this facade.
On March 1, HTC announced the refreshed HTC One M9 for 2015. It had a pretty similar design to last year’s M8, but there are tons of improvements to the camera and hardware, not to mention some pretty big changes on the software side. . While HTC Sense is still similar to Sense, they have added a few improvements that One M8 owners are eagerly waiting for.
As we speak, with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop coming to HTC One M8 on AT&T and already arriving for many other carriers, users have taken to Twitter to ask HTC about Sense 7. A major software update for the HTC One M8 will have Sense 7, but that’s all we know so far.
@MuhammedAsad528 no, that won’t happen but our next update will include it. Thanks.

HTC’s Mo Versi has confirmed that the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update does not include the new Sense 7, but the next update will. However, it doesn’t share any additional details about when that will happen or what will be included.
Overall, HTC Sense 6 and 7 are not much different. Those with Android 5.0 Lollipop on the One M8 already have most of the changes, as Sense 7 mainly tweaks the Lollipop experience for HTC owners and adds a few new features. HTC Camera, Gallery, and many other apps can be updated instantly from the Play Store, so most device owners don’t need to wait for a major update to get the latest and greatest.
The biggest additions One M8 owners can expect to HTC Sense 7 are the software tweaks, color options and the hugely impressive new “Theme” app on the One M9. It allows owners to change wallpapers, backgrounds, font, completely change the look of icons and much more. The theme engine is really powerful and that’s the biggest thing owners have been waiting for. In addition, new buttons can be added to the capacitive touch navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen, which is a nice detail.
For now HTC One M8 is on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, but an Android 5.1 or 5.1.1 Lollipop update with even more fixes, HTC Sense UI 7 and more is expected to be released in the coming weeks or months. It probably won’t be until this summer, but we’ll update once HTC confirms more information.
