Google withdraws AnTuTu benchmarking tools from Play Store

It is not unusual for Google to remove an app from the Play Store. If the rules are less strict than in the Apple App Store, Mountain View’s store A safe place for anyone who wants to enrich their Android experience. When Google considers an app to be unsafe or not complying with certain rules (especially in terms of permissions), the firm deletes the app without notice.

And that was apparently the case with AnTuTu apps. Three performance measurement tools developed by the Chinese publisher and used by many bloggers, journalists and cell phone experts therefore no longer available. These are AnTuTu Benchmark, AnTuTu 3DBench and AITuTu Benchmark, which are information disclosed by AppBrain analytics software and relayed by the Android Police site. This removal was recently done as we ran tests using AnTuTu Benchmark on the Oppo A9 (2020) last week. So the app could be accessed from there.

A deletion of AnTuTu’s owner

If you want to re-download AnTuTu’s software on Android, please note that APKs can be downloaded from the publisher’s official website. Then it is enough to start the APK from a smartphone that allows installation of archives from sources other than the Play Store. Of course, by doing this, you lose the protection that the Play Store provides. According to Android Police, the reason for this removal is not related to the apps themselves, to the prospective owner of the publisher of these vehicles: Cheetah Mobile. It seems that the two companies are closely linked.

Cheetah Mobile, the designer of the Clean Master optimization suite, is an editor that doesn’t have a good reputation on Google. All products of this company were removed from the Play Store at the end of February. Cheetah Mobile allegedly violates Play Store policies in terms of collecting personal data and displaying banner ads, among other things. The removal of all apps from Cheetah Mobile was part of a larger campaign to remove apps that violate Play Store policies. 600 applications were removed from the store a few weeks ago.
