As of this writing, Google is rolling out the Locked Data Backup feature. Concretely, this means that you can admire your delicate photos on all your terminals. provided that you have enabled backup on the smartphone where they are stored. Of course, locked folders will remain locked and you will always have to do something to access them, whether it is entering your fingerprint or password.
Bringing this type of data online can be scary, and it’s completely legitimate to be wary of the cloud. But, nothing forces the user to dive in. In fact, you even have to enable backup manually. From our perspective, we think this isn’t such a bad idea. In case of phone theft, it will be possible to delete your data remotely. On the other hand, no server, not even Google’s, is tamper-proof. Therefore, photos are not completely safe. So everything will be at everyone’s discretion.
This feature has been in the news for a few months now as it has been spotted several times in the app’s source code. It’s official now and is currently deployed. If you can’t yet back up your sensitive photos to the cloud, don’t panic; This process will occur within the next few hours. Those who do not want to use this new feature should do nothing; photos will always be stored only on your phone.
