Google Maps adds weather information on iOS before Android

Competition from the iOS and Android ecosystems sometimes leads to awkward situations: Google appears to be rolling out new features first on iPhones before rolling them out on Android. Note that the reverse is also true: Street View, for example, is still Android app-specific. Eventually, all new features will be made compatible across different platforms. But we’re always surprised that the Pixel maker and main contributor to the AOSP project has done so much to promote the competitor ecosystem’s appeal.

But it doesn’t matter: Google Maps on iOS has a new badge that appears on maps in the upper left. This gives brief information about the weather near the place you are consulting: a pictogram (sun, cloudy, etc.) and displays the temperature. When the user scrolls the map, the badge disappears and reappears with updated data. However, once you make a deposit, the badge disappears. pine on the map.

This innovation is far from a gimmick and is as simple to implement as it is effective because it saves you further steps to obtain the same knowledge. We also emphasize that it’s not really a button, it’s a badge. For example, tapping to get more detailed weather data is not (yet?) possible – it would undoubtedly be more practical.
