Google Allo is shutting down today, save your data while there’s still time

Google Allo may have a small fan base, but the messaging app launched in 2016 has failed to establish itself in the market, with WhatsApp and Facebook Mensenger already firmly established. Add to this the Google strategy, which is quite confusing with so many apps serving almost the same purpose. Maybe it’s time to put some order to the offer. For example, the classic Hougout will gradually merge with Hangout Chat and Hangout Meet. This isn’t the only decision the company has made.

Google Allo is officially shutting down today

This was announced last December. Google Allo’s death was scheduled for March 2019. Finally the moment has come. It is still possible for users who want to recover a copy of their data (conversations and media). To do this :

• Open the Allo app.
• Expand the side menu by tapping the three horizontal lines in the upper left corner.
• press on Settings > Chats.
• press on Export chat messages. This option allows you to get a CSV file containing all your conversations.
• Another option allows you to:Export chat media files. These files are compressed in a Zip archive.

So much for backing up your data. Finally, the closure of Google Allo does not mean that the company has withdrawn from the messaging app market. Google continues to push other apps for video calls, such as Google Duo or Google Messages with version 4.1 currently being distributed.
