The price of Bitcoin, the most famous of cryptocurrencies, continues to play a yo-yo, and the NFT works that Justin Bieber bought at gold prices in 2021 at the height of the hype are now only worth a fraction of the price. Despite all these dangers, Google intends to rely on this new technology. The company has indeed announced on its Android blog that it will now allow “new blockchain-based experiences on Google Play.” Concretely, the developersapplications Android will be able to take full advantage of the blockchain and offers rewards and other rewards in the form of NFTs in its apps.

News like this is enough to raise eyebrows. The blockchain and NFT world is still largely the Wild West; a universe where brilliant successes are followed by the most painful defeats and investors sometimes lose their savings. Google wants to be reassuring : “Maintaining the trust of users is essential […] We require apps to be transparent to users about tokenized digital assets. For example, if an app or game sells or allows users to earn NFT, developers should make that clear.”

Furthermore, “although tokenized assets are intended to create more rewarding and immersive experiences, developers must not promote or glorify potential earnings from game events or exchange to better protect the user.” But this new company policy will not be an open door to all windows.
With respect to contests, gambling and real money gambling, “developers will not offer purchases where the value of the NFT received by users at the time of purchase is not clear”. Therefore, random draws of virtual objects and “loot boxes” would be illegal.
