Meta’s thriving new social network, Threads, took the internet by storm, reaching over 100 million users just days after its launch. Although the application continues to increase in popularity, A few lesser-known features you can use to improve your experience. Let’s explore some of these hidden options.
A shortcut to create a topic
Topics uses a post format called “post threads” that allow users to combine multiple posts together to create a cohesive story. While users can tap “Add to Topic” to add a secondary message when the character limit is reached, Topics actually provides a nifty shortcut that does exactly the same thing.
After typing your first message, all you have to do is press the “return” or “Enter” key three times. A new discussion thread will then be automatically created. This useful feature allows users to Build sequences even faster without leaving your keyboard.
Mute Users
Topics currently gives you a news feed that includes not only posts from your friends, but also featured posts from people you don’t know. If Meta is already known to be working on a thread specific to the people you follow, you can’t avoid some spam for now.
To customize content consumption, Threads provides an option to mute the profile. If you come across accounts you don’t want to see, mute them. To do this, tap the three-dot menu in a message from the desired account and select the “Mute” option. Muting a profile ensures that the user’s posts no longer appear in the feed. This feature doesn’t block the person like the private option does so they always have access to your profile and vice versa.

Another useful tool in Threads is the Hidden Words feature. By accessing the Privacy page in the profile settings, you will find a “Hidden words” section. This feature allows users to hide replies or messages containing certain words or phrases. By adding the terms you want to the list, Better manage your content stream to exclude offensive content. Threads also has a special Digital Balance feature. In settings, you’ll find a “Take a break” option located in Settings > Account. Once enabled, the app will give you notification every 10, 20 or 30 minutes to remind you to log out. This functionality is directly inherited from Instagram, which already lets you schedule reminders to take a break or set a daily time limit to use the app.
