General Google Pixel Android 9 Pie Issues and Fixes

The exciting Google Pixel Android 9 Pie update has finally arrived but is causing issues for some users. And while we’ve tackled many Android P beta issues, today we want to tell you what you need to know and how to fix them on your Pixel. Especially now Android 9.0 is officially available.

The first Android P Developer Preview arrived in March. Since then, we’ve seen five previews and four betas add new features and fix issues. However, Google hasn’t caught everything, and we’re seeing a lot of minor complaints pop up.

While we wait for Google to fix these bugs, many people who have just installed Android 9 are experiencing frustrating problems. We’re here to help, so keep reading about some of the most common Pixel Android 9 problems and how to fix them.

We see random reboots, complaints about freezing, Bluetooth problemssettings menu crashes, gesture control problemsmissing texts, fingerprint Problems in Android 9 and more.

You have the potential to run into problems with any major software update, such as upgrading from Android 8.0 to Android 9. Big and small. While we try to solve some of these here today, you may want to perform a factory data reset and give your phone a fresh start. But before that, try these tips.

Google Pixel Android 9 WiFi Problems

Even on Android 8.0 Oreo we see complaints about WiFi. This is something that happens on every phone no matter the software. Whether this is WiFi speeds, drops or connectivity. Usually this is something we can easily fix.

If you’re having issues with WiFi, our first recommendation would be to turn WiFi off and then back on. Swipe down the notification bar and tap the WiFi quick settings tile at the top. Then turn it back on and try to connect. If that still doesn’t help, a quick reboot usually fixes the problem.

However, if you’re still experiencing Pixel WiFi issues, try this. Go and forget your wifi. Unplug your home router or modem and wait at least 10-15 seconds before plugging it back in. When it reboots, search for it, reconnect, enter your password and see how it goes. Google made many changes to WiFi in Android 8.1 and some in Android P beta. So things can get messy. Starting fresh will remap the connection after this major software upgrade.

Pixel Bluetooth Issues

We see similar complaints about Android P Bluetooth and NFC problems. With so many different devices, brands, accessories and automakers, this is inevitable. Personally, I never had a single issue with my Pixel until I updated it to Android 8.0 Oreo. They went with Android P beta and it looks good on Android 9 so far.

However, the biggest complaint is the connection or disconnection in cars for no reason. Try deleting all Bluetooth pairings from settings and starting over. Even wipe your phone from car stereo if that’s the option.

Some of the March, June, and July Android 8.1 Oreo Pixel updates had fixes for Bluetooth. If you’ve run some of the Pixel Android P betas, you’ve missed these updates. Now that you are on Android 9, restart all your Bluetooth pairings and the experience will be greatly improved.

Bad Pixel Android 9 Pie Battery Life Issues

This is brand new software with tons of AI smarts. One of these “AI smarts” are adaptive battery controls that use artificial intelligence in the operating system to ensure the best possible battery life. Your phone knows when to sleep apps and the like. However, we’re seeing some early complaints about battery life. This is expected and don’t worry.

Poor battery life can be caused by many things, but it’s most likely an app that isn’t working properly with Android 9. We recommend customizing the location settings, lowering the screen brightness to around 40% or automatically, and closing any large apps you haven’t closed. longer need. If the battery life is bad right after the update, it is because everything needs to be adjusted and you have used your phone a lot. Give it a day or two to settle in.

That said, the best way is to go to settings and make sure an app isn’t draining your juice. Get started and see what’s in your top 5. Typically the Android system, the Android OS, or the screen is at the top. If there is an app near the top, something is wrong. Uninstall it, disable the app or tap on it and hit the “Force Close” button to close an app that is draining the battery.

We also recommend setting up Battery Saver modes when you’re stuck and need some extra juice.

Android 9 Motion Control Issues

We hear many people complain about the new gesture controls in Android 9. That’s why Google disabled them right out of the box and made an optional mod that you need to enable. Here’s how to enable gesture controls on Android P.

If the home motion “pill” keeps getting stuck or freezing, sticks to the screen while off and charging, or you are dealing with other motion navigation issues, try disabling it completely. Basically, we’re going to turn motion controls off and on again, which will fix your issues.

All it takes is to remove the gesture control navigation for a moment and put it back. So, whether you have a major problem or just a stuck button or window, see if the problem persists. I’ve given up on gesture controls for now, and I hope Google tweaks the experience a bit before making it the only way to use our phones.

Google Pay on Android 9

Finally, Google Pay works with Android 9 Pie. Almost everyone in the beta had issues with Google Pay or NFC. If you can’t pay in beta, download the official update and try Google Pay again.

We even recommend signing out of Google Pay, signing in, and making sure your phone has NFC enabled. Minor bugs in beta are gone and it should run smoothly. If you’re still having issues, we’ve reached out to Google and have given you feedback if we learn more.

Animation Zoom Error

Does the “incoming call” animation on your Pixel 2 or 2 XL freeze, making it impossible to answer a phone call? You’re not alone. This is animation zooming bug and Google is reportedly fixing it in Developer Preview 5 from late July. But after Android 9 arrived, we’ve seen at least two reports of it on Reddit.

We are currently not aware of any potential fixes for this. Just call people back or do other things to keep the animation from freezing. If you have updated to Android 9 Pie and still try clearing cache in your phone app or factory data reset.

Blank Camera Issues on Pie

they were seeing several reports Pixel XL camera not working after Android 9 Pie update. When you launch the camera app, it is completely blank or black. Google has made some minor tweaks and improvements to the camera, so you’re running into trouble. We have a fix though.

Go from the list. Click on camera and select “clear cache” and try again. This will delete some residual files in the camera app system and will fix the issues. If it persists, try clearing the camera app data as well, reboot your phone and launch the camera. Those are the two fixes we’ve heard so far that work. Let us know if you are dealing with a bad camera after Android 9.

Misbehaving Apps on Android 9

Another common complaint from Android P beta and now official Android 9 users is apps not working properly. It could be Snapchat crashing or your favorite video player messing up. The whole point of Android P beta and developer preview is that developers can test and improve their apps and services with Google’s new software. But some did not get the message.

Some apps will be incompatible or unstable. This is how it goes in the early days of an update. Be patient if you have an app that is not working properly on Android 9. Most likely all is well, but we could see a few issues. If so, the developers are probably working hard to fix it. Wait a few days and try again. Remember, Android 9 has just been released and some dev teams will need a few days to get everything sorted out.

Now we wanted to share a long list. possible Android 9 issues That Google has been actively working on it since releasing the first beta. Again, this is just a list of potential issues in the beta version, all of which have probably been fixed this summer. However, we wanted to list them in case anyone experiences something similar. That way, they know that Google is aware of the problem and is already working on a solution.

And in previous months, they’ve included meaningful patches and bug fixes inside these “security maintenance releases”. Basically, if you’re having issues, you can expect a few minor bug fixes from the early September release. Or, if necessary, Google may remove Android 9.0.1 before the end of the year.
