Galaxy Note 7 Fast Wireless Charging: What You Need to Know

The Galaxy Note 7 is finally official and one of Samsung’s best smartphones to date. It offers a premium all-metal design, water resistance, double the storage and a larger battery than any other Note. Another feature it has is “Fast Wireless Charging” and here we will explain what it does and what owners need to know about it.

Just like last year’s Note 5 and even March’s Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, the new Note 7 also features Fast Wireless Charging. This technology is nothing new, but how fast it charges the Note 7 is what makes it worth talking about.

Many smartphones on the market over the years have offered wireless charging, including Samsung devices, but most have not been very fast. It was more of a novelty or convenience, but it took too long to be truly useful. All that has changed with Fast Wireless Charging, and it’s now fast enough that all Note 7 owners would consider buying one.

First off, it’s worth noting that there are two different types of wireless charging. If you buy the wrong charging pad or your new car does not support the correct type, it will not work on some devices. It has Qi Wireless Charging and PMA Wireless Charging Standard. Fortunately, Samsung’s Note 7 supports both standards, so all wireless charging options will work. The same can be said for all of Samsung’s flagship models up to the Galaxy S6.

So both types of wireless charging work with your phone. This handy option and removing the guesswork of any wireless charger will charge users to the new Note 7. Many Starbuck locations have PMA chargers that will work, but at slower speeds than Samsung’s own Fast Wireless Charging pads.

How does it work

Instead of plugging your phone in, simply drop it on a wireless charging pad and it starts charging as soon as the two surfaces touch. No cable to Note 7 even though the charger is plugged in.

Drop it on the wireless charging pad and it charges, pick it up and go and you have a full battery. However, wireless charging used to be slow, taking around 3-4 hours to fully charge a device. A regular wired charger (like the one in the box) will fully charge your device to 100% in less than 90 minutes. With the exception of the Note 7, it’s twice as fast as wireless charging. The faster system will run much faster, but still slower than a wall outlet.

Samsung Fast Wireless Charger

With the Galaxy Note 5, Samsung introduced fast wireless charging. This has increased power and speed by 1.4x and now Qi Wireless charging pads will juice 15w instead of 10w. It makes wireless charging faster than ever before.

In fact, the Galaxy Note 7 and Fast Wireless Charging pad charge 50 minutes faster than legacy wireless charging technology. It takes longer than the charger in the box, but not by much. Below is a video showing this feature on last year’s Galaxy Note 5, which works the same way on the new Note 7.

It is safe, simple and easy. All you have to do is leave your Note 7 on its charger and that’s it. Fast Wireless charging starts and starts charging your smartphone wirelessly.

Samsung has released several Fast Wireless Charging Pads and they are the best retail for $59.99. This charges any Qi-enabled device and is backwards compatible with regular wireless charging phones from the past. There are newer ones that hold the phone upright, but we’ve heard that some devices drop pretty easily, so we recommend the Pad linked above.
