In 2019 alone, apps were downloaded 120 billion times from the Play Store and App Store. This represents an increase of 5% compared to 2018. This is a significant increase knowing that the number of downloads does not include reinstalls and updates. Users also spent nearly $90 billion on app purchases and in-app spend on Android and iOS.
The most striking observation from this report, published by the App Annie platform, is that Facebook alone has the four most popular mobile apps: Facebook, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp occupy the three steps of the podium and theninstagramThe fourth most downloaded app on smartphones and tablets for 10 years.

If Facebook has such a huge impact on the daily lives of hundreds of millions of people around the world, it’s because Mark Zuckerberg’s company has an extraordinary ability to pull applications with enormous potential into their fold. Instagram and WhatsApp were acquired by the group in 2012 and 2014, respectively. Snapchat, which is in 5th place in the ranking, could have been swallowed without the determination of its owners, who resisted many of Facebook’s acquisition attempts. Surprise, Subway Sufers rise to the top Most downloaded games in 10 years and here is App Annie’s description. “Due to its high adoption in India accounting for over 15% of all-time downloads (iOS and Google Play together), Subway Surfers It was the most downloaded game of the decade”. Candy Crush Saga is second on the podium, followed by Temple Run 2.
