The emergence of very large screens on smartphones has had an impact on the usability of interfaces. Indeed, some areas of the screen are only accessible if you change your phone’s grip, risk dropping it, or using your second hand. To make up for this, developers are redesigning their apps so that the most important functions are accessible.
Among other things, Google is working on Chrome and ergonomic solutions to review the location of certain virtual switches. The solution offered by Google is called Duet. Currently, the Android version of the web browser is pushed by the Mountain View company in the developer and beta versions. The general public release, meanwhile, is not yet anxious, but should be soon.
What changes does Duet bring to Chrome?
As you can see from the screenshots accompanying this article, changes affect the area next to the search bar and the virtual keys at the bottom of the screen. And especially their content. So Duet’s changes to Chrome are subtle. But they are also effective.
By activating Duet, you have access to: a menu that allows you to change the position of certain items : new tab, tab change, access to search bar, share address. Depending on which ones you use most often, you place them in the bottom bar. Note that the possibilities are more extensive in the developer version of Chrome than in the beta version.
How to enable Chrome Duet on your smartphone?
To test this new interface and the possibilities offered to you, simply install it. One of two versions of Chrome with Duet implemented : beta version or developer version (or all three versions including Canary).
Once one of these versions is installed, open it and in the address bar type: ” chrome://flags “. to the search engine” duets “. There, open the drop-down menu and click on one of the suggested options that allow you to reposition certain buttons. You have to restart Chrome each time to activate the changes.
