Android 14 will finally let you set ringtone and notification sounds separately

There are two types of smartphone users: those who judge only by the vibrator, and those who like to hear their device ring at every notification. Of course, this categorization is deliberately very approximate, as certain nuances have to be taken into account. For example, among audiophiles, not everyone gives the same importance to every alert sent from their phone.

For a while, however, the Google Pixel allowed full adjustment of the volume for each category, making it possible to give more volume to the phone ringing or vice versa notifications. However, the Mountain View company has withdrawn this feature without further explanation, despite user objections. Fortunately, everything should change with Android 14.

Android 14 will give you more control over adjusting volume levels

Indeed, several users noticed the possibility of separately adjusting the volume of phone ringtones and various notifications in the second Developer Preview of Android 14. Until now, the OS treats the ringtone as a notification like any other, making it impossible to turn down or increase its volume.

A screenshot shared on Twitter by Mishaal Rahman features two different sliders for the two volumes. If the smartphone is put into vibrate mode, both units will be disabled. The journalist also recalls that the feature first appeared during the QPR 2 beta of Android 13, but a flag must be enabled beforehand to take advantage of it.

Therefore, we hope that one day it will reach the general public with Android 14. Users have been wanting more control over their volume for several years now, and Google may have finally heard their request.
