Android 14 freezes unused apps for a while and was cached. It then doesn’t give them any CPU time. During the Android 14 testing phase, Google developers found that “cached processes consume up to 50% fewer CPU cycles compared to devices running Android 13.”

Publications messages sent to applications between themor by the operating system that notifies different programs live of changes that occur when the device starts up, the network connection changes, or when you install or uninstall an application. To ensure frozen apps don’t “wake up” when receiving broadcasts, Android 14 places them in the queue.
Developers were able to “reduce cold starts” by caching more applications. Speed performance will vary depending on the amount of RAM your smartphone has, but overall users should find apps opening faster than ever with this update.
