Android 7.0 Update Arrives Early to One Nexus 6P

The Android 7.0 Nougat update is expected to be released sometime this summer after a long beta testing period that has been going on since March. The final version of Android 7.0 Nougat could be coming soon, especially considering that Google has sent a newer build than the last developer preview to select Google employees. In a username on Reddit brianmoyano whoever owns a used Nexus 6P got exactly that.

Instead, an updated internal-only version of Android 7.0 Nougat has arrived. A small 50 MB update has arrived for the Nexus 6P. This update is newer than the latest developer preview which is NPD90G and is currently in software version NRD90M.

This update already runs the upcoming August security patch before August. This is clearly a non-public version of Android 7.0 Nougat and is for Googlers only.

It didn’t catch the OTA link to share with other Nexus 6P owners, the phone doesn’t show any significant change, and it lacks Google’s recently announced (but still unavailable) Allo and Duo messaging and video calling apps.

Essentially, a nearly complete version of Android 7.0 Nougat was accidentally sent to a regular user, not a Google employee. It’s just a bug, but it could be a sign that Google is preparing to officially release the software to all users around the world.
