Android 14: When will your smartphone receive the update?

It was during the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro launch that Google officially released Android 14. But as always, it’s up to each smartphone manufacturer to make their devices compatible with the new update, and everyone has a very different rhythm.

So when will your Android phone get the coveted Android 14 update? Now let’s review where the major phone manufacturers stand today and what we know about their plans for Android 14. Of course, we cannot discuss all the devices that will be compatible with all manufacturers, but we will try to summarize what is being prepared for each of them. ASUS

ASUS, which started its Android 14 adventure with Zenfone 10, started public tests on October 10, a few days after the official launch of the new version. The closed community beta is currently ongoing, which suggests that the stable version on Zenfone 10 and ROG Phone 7 will be released soon.

In line with its strategy of providing two major updates for its devices, the company continues its policy of supporting new devices by extending the update to Zenfone 9 and ROG Phone 6. As is often the case, you can expect Android 14 to arrive first on the latest devices and then be rolled out to other devices.

Google

Google, the main responsible for Android, quickly released Android 14 for the Pixel series. Devices as old as the Pixel 4a 5G from 2020 have been receiving the update since October 4. All smartphones released after this date are therefore already eligible.

Even better, the Pixel 8 series marks the beginning of an even greater commitment from Google to update its devices, with the brand now promising 7 years of new Android versions. The next update, the Feature Pack, will arrive in December and will add many new features to certain devices in the American giant’s catalog.

Huawei

Huawei still faces challenges in the smartphone market due to geopolitical tensions. Its listing on the Department of Commerce’s Entity List severed official ties with Google in 2019, forcing Huawei to develop its own operating system, HarmonyOS. For this reason, Huawei smartphones will not be able to receive Android 14.

Honour

Many Honor smartphones will receive Android 14 in the coming weeks. This will be especially true of the company’s high-end devices Honor Magic 4 and Magic 5, as well as foldable devices such as Magic Vs.

Cheap smartphones were not forgotten either, as we are also waiting for the update on Honor 90 and Honor 70. However, a date has not been announced yet.

Motorola’s

Motorola smartphone users can expect Android 14 to be released in early 2024, starting with the 2022 Edge series.

The commitment covers the 2023 lineup, which includes devices like the Razr, the newer Motorola Moto G, and the Edge 40. It will also be available for Motorola Edge 30 later. A dedicated software support page allows users to track the progress of Android operating system updates for specific devices.

Nothing

Nothing has released Android 14 with the second open beta of Nothing OS 2.5. This iteration builds on Android 14 but adds features mostly designed to enhance the company’s signature Glyph interface.

Users can expect three years of OS upgrades and four years of security updates, so two of the company’s smartphones, Nothing Phone (1) and Nothing Phone (2), will receive the update in the coming weeks.

OnePlus

OnePlus is actively testing the beta version of OxygenOS 14, the company’s Android 14-based interface. Beta 4, announced on November 8, is available to users in some countries, but it is not yet clear when it will reach the stable version. OnePlus is one of the manufacturers committed to releasing new versions for the longest time, promising four years of Android updates and five years of security patches for its high-end smartphones.

OnePlus 11 was one of the first to receive the update, but it will soon be available to older devices such as the OnePlus 8T, OnePlus Nord 2T, and OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite. If your device is newer, it should get Android 14.

Oppo

Like OnePlus, Oppo was quick to roll out Android 14 to the latest Find N2 Flip, but we’re still waiting for the update on other smartphones. Among these, there are devices as old as the Reno 8T.

It is certain that Android 14 will soon come to devices like the Oppo Find as well as the five-year security patch on its high-end smartphones.

Android 14 is currently available in beta on some of the company’s smartphones such as the GT2 Pro, but no date has been announced for the stable version yet. Suitable smartphones are plentiful; for example Realme 9, Realme 10, Realme 11, Realme GT and a few Narzos.

SAMSUNG

Samsung began rolling out the Android 14 operating system One UI 6 on the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy 22 models late last month. The company’s commitment to benefit from four generations of system updates has kept older devices like the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy A32 excluded from the Android 14 experience.

The update is currently available in beta on foldable smartphones starting with the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 and should therefore be rolled out in a stable version within the next few weeks.

Samsung is expected to launch Android 14 on Galaxy A13, Galaxy A14, A23, Galaxy A24, Galaxy A33, Galaxy A34, Galaxy A52, Galaxy A53, Galaxy A54, Galaxy A72, and Galaxy A73 in just a few days.

sony

Sony started rolling out Android 14 on its flagship Xperia 1 V on November 6, before rolling out the update to the Xperia 10 V. Although the exact timeline for expanding the update to other Xperia models has not been announced, Sony users can expect the update to improve their devices soon. These include Xperia 5 IV, Xperia 5 V, Xperia 1 III and Xperia 1 IV.

Live

Vivo has also started experiencing Android 14 with the iQOO 11 and Vivo X90 Pro, but the update is currently only available in beta. The stable version is expected to be available next year for iQOO 8, iQOO Neo 6, iQOO Z5, V23, X70, X Flip and Fold 2, Y35 and all newer models.

Xiaomi

Xiaomi was one of the first to launch the new version of MIUI 14 based on Android 14 on Xiaomi 13 Pro, Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 12T.

The exact timeline for older Xiaomi devices is not yet clear, but devices as old as Xiaomi 11, Poco F3, Poco M3, Poco X4, Redmi Note 10 (5G) will receive the update. However, it will take time for the new version to be distributed to many smartphones, and priority will be given to the latest high-tech devices, as always.
