5 Exciting New Google Home Features

Google has announced some exciting new features for Google Home. Smart speaker with voice controls, artificial intelligence and Google Assistant. While each new feature is small on its own, they all represent a major upgrade for users.

So far, the smart speaker hasn’t been able to do as much as Google initially promised. But with those five or six features, that can change very quickly.

In the near future, Google Home will be able to predict what you want and need, then give you subtle alerts and reminders. Google has added hands-free calling and will integrate more entertainment options. Your Google Home will be able to do more and talk to you in brand new ways.

Proactive Assistant and Notifications

Smart speakers can do a lot while just waiting for commands from a user, but Google wants to change that. Google calls this feature “proactive help”. With this Homepage, they will be able to alert users to things they need to know before asking. Think flight status updates or delays, traffic alerts, and upcoming reminders.

Don’t worry, we won’t be overloaded with notifications. You will be able to control them and even set your own reminders. Also, the House does not start talking at random moments. Hands Free Calling

Soon every Google Home will support free WiFi calling to phones in the US and Canada. If that sounds familiar, it’s because Amazon has announced something similar for the Echo. But you can only search for other Amazon Echo devices.

Hands-free calling on Google Home will be able to call any landline or mobile phone. It uses your contacts as it recognizes your voice and appears as your personal phone number on the other end. You can set the number to “private” if you wish.

Additionally, Google Home will recognize individual users and link to contact lists. Unfortunately this will be available “in the next few months” so it’s not available yet.

More Fun on Google Home

Google Home already has access to a lot of different entertainment, but that too will only get better in the near future. These include Spotify free music, Deezer, and SoundCloud on the music front. Not to mention HBO Now, CBS All Access, and Hulu for video.

Finally, Google is adding direct Bluetooth audio support. Basically, the ability to stream anything over Bluetooth from any device you own.

Calendar and Reminders

Another problem for Google Home owners is the inability to set reminders or enter information in a calendar. When asked, House says he can’t do that yet. Soon, both of these options will be available on Google Home.

TV Features

Finally, Google Home will soon have an interface for your TV. The idea behind this is to make Home more visual so we don’t just listen to everything it can do.

It will be basic things like weather, calendars or nearby places to get started, then expanded to even more useful features. You’ll be able to tell Home to play YouTube videos on your TV or show pre-recorded shows from your YouTube TV DVR list.
