Wait for 2024: Xbox Game Store will be available for Android and iOS smartphones

Gaming enthusiasts are about to have games of Xbox available in the palm of your hand. Microsoft gaming division magnate Phil Spencer hinted at the possibility of a smartphone game store being ready by 2024 in an interview with the Financial Times.

Spencer also stated that Microsoft is already studying the date for the official launch of the Xbox app store on Android and iOS smartphones.

During the interview, Spencer also mentioned the Digital Markets Act, a new law that requires Google and Apple to allow users to access apps from stores other than the Google Play Store and App Store.

“The Digital Markets Act that’s coming up – that’s the kind of thing we’re planning for. I think it’s a huge opportunity.”

New law paves the way for Microsoft’s app store

The Digital Markets Act, which sets new rules, was signed by the European Parliament in 2022 and will come into force from May this year. The law will act to ensure that digital companies are identified if they use their influence to prevent other alternative brands from participating in digital trade.

In this way, Microsoft will have a great business opportunity by being authorized to make its application store available on iOS and Android systems, within legal parameters.

“We want to be in a position to deliver Xbox content and content from our third-party partners to any screen where someone wants to play. We can’t do that on mobile devices today, but we want to build a world where we think we’ll be wherever those devices are,” declared Spancer.

Microsoft has already demonstrated its commitment to showing consumers the range of gaming options available, especially with mainstream games like “Call of Duty Mobile.” The company says that learning about more popular games can help users learn about other game productions.

“Waiting consumers away from the Google Play Store and App Store on mobile devices will, however, require a major shift in consumer behavior. Microsoft hopes that by offering familiar and popular content, gamers will be more inclined to try something new.”
