Did Qui-Gon already know that Anakin would become Vader?

Many believe that, precisely at the moment when Quin-Gon Jinn delivers his most famous line in “Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace,” the rise of Darth Vader within the “Star Wars” galaxy may have begun.

It is no surprise that Qui-Gon had never been seen as conventional among his fellow Jedi Masters. More often than not, he ended up defending some methods that were not very convenient for his colleagues. However, if we look at it from another point of view, we will see that his colleagues revered his wisdom and it was even seen, at times, as something prophetic. And this ended up being very well illustrated by a joke made by the Jedi Master.

During the stopover on Tatooine, Qui-Gon, along with his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi, ends up meeting a young Anakin Skywalker, whom Qui-Gon decides to informally take on as an apprentice.

The young man ends up showing him incredible strength, when it is suggested to him that the character was created through his own strength. However, unfortunately, neither Jinn nor Kenobi could have imagined that this young boy would grow up to become none other than Darth Vader, the most feared Sith in the entire galaxy.

In “Darth Vader #4”, produced by Greg Pak together with Raffaele Ienco, Anakin Skywalker is shown returning to Naboo to take complete revenge on those who hid the existence of his son.

While passing through his late wife’s home planet, he ends up encountering Sando Aqua Monster, a gigantic monster that can be seen in “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace”, which is responsible for attacking and killing a creature that is chasing the underwater vessel commanded by Obi-Wan Kenobi and his master.

The unusual encounter ends up causing Qui-Jinn to make a joke, saying “There is always a bigger fish”. But, surprisingly, there is no predator that can face Sando Aqua Monster, at least until the moment Darth Vader appears.

Even though the phrase ends up being quite cliché, it fits perfectly in predicting not only the rise of Darth Vader, but also the fall of the Jedi Order, including the death of Qui-Gon Jinn. The idea behind the phrase conveys the thought that no matter how strong or great you are, there will always be someone bigger to defeat you.

For those who don’t know, the Sando Aqua Monster creatures are the most ferocious on Naboo, until Vader manages to kill one of them. The Old Republic and the Jedi were held in high esteem for many years, until Sheev Palpatine ends up destroying them.

Ultimately, there is no denying that Qui-Gon Jinn is one of the most skilled fighters in the entire Jedi Order, until Darth Vader surpasses him.
