Frankly, we have not learned not to copy from our neighbor’s page on WhatsApp. Lately Meta Messaging seems to be catching up with the competition in terms of features. This is how we saw the arrival of the ability to edit messages like in Discord and Slack, or even the fact of replacing a person’s nickname with a phone number.

Today, the app returns, this time with a feature that is very popular among the competition: channels. If you are a regular Telegram user, you probably already know how it works. These are discussion channels that users subscribe to regularly receive messages and other news from administrators.

WhatsApp distributes channels so you don’t miss any news that interests you

This could be companies keeping their customers informed about the latest products and services being released, or a city informing its residents about upcoming events, or just a group of enthusiasts discussing their common hobby. As you can understand, these channels are aimed first of all at the latter who want to stay as close as possible to their subscribers and at the same time follow the news of their brand or their favorite events.

However, channel subscribers will not be able to send messages in the conversation. This right will belong to the channel managers. Message history will remain available for 30 days before disappearing. Additionally, channels will not be mixed into your usual conversations, but will instead be stored in a separate tab titled News. The functionality should be generally available soon.
