Google announced many new features for the Wallet app at its recent I/O conference. The most notable of these is undoubtedly the digitalization of loyalty cards as well as driver’s licenses; But these aren’t the only ongoing projects at the Mountain View firm. As a matter of fact, on the occasion of the fifth Google event for Brazil, it announced the arrival of a new feature that will attract the attention of old smartphone owners.
Google Wallet, which has gradually replaced Google Pay worldwide to date, allows contactless payments using NFC technology, which equips most modern smartphones. In fact, devices that do not offer this feature cannot replace a bank card. Therefore Google will solve this problem using a solution related to: a QR code. This will be displayed on the payment terminal so the user can scan and pay with their smartphone.
No NFC? No problem for Google Wallet
This feature is not a first for Google as the company has already made this feature available in India through its GPay app. This time, it’s joining Wallet, initially only in Brazil. A thoughtful strategy, because many smartphones without NFC are still in circulation in South American countries.

In our part of the world, the functionality will definitely not be that popular as the majority of current smartphones already incorporate this technology.
