Autocorrect on iPhone and iPad is great when it works. The only problem is that sometimes it doesn’t work as well as you would like, or it works a little too well. Sometimes you come across a few words like “yo” or “froyo” that constantly turn into words you don’t want to type.
If you have a few words that keep changing on you, here are a few ways to make sure your words haven’t changed.
If the words you want to keep are simple words (we’ll come to people and places later), the answer is in Settings, specifically the Shortcuts feature. The process is pretty easy, just follow these simple steps:
This method is how I kept my iPhone from swapping the aforementioned words “yo” and “froyo”, which I use often enough to find the autocorrect annoying. Of course, you can also use shortcuts to create actual shortcuts as Apple intended, but this also works for easily adding words to the phone’s dictionary.
The other method is mostly useful for names and places you use frequently. To do this, simply add the contact or place as a contact on your iOS device. To do this, open Contacts and click the “+” button in the upper right corner. You don’t need to fill out everything about the person or place, just the name.
The second method is probably not the best idea for your pet. Unless you really want your dog to be on your phone as a contact.
