Sony Xperia Z5: Everything You Need to Know

While Sony and its impressive line of Xperia Android smartphones aren’t very popular in the United States, the company is during its annual IFA mobile event in Berlin this week. announced three very capable smartphones. The new Xperia Z5 is available in three sizes, one with a 4k UHD display, and we’ll go over all the details below for those interested.

Earlier this week, the entire Xperia Z5 lineup was leaked on some. photo and video, but yesterday Sony made all three devices official. This year Sony’s standout smartphones are the Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact. Points of interest for all potential buyers with a 5.5 inch 4k resolution (crazy) screen, 5.2 inch and compact 4.6 inch device.

Sony is taking a different approach this year, and to learn more about all three of these flagship smartphones and their 23-megapixel cameras, you’ll want to keep reading all the way down to the side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

This year it looks like Sony will fire up all the cylinders by offering the same impressive flagship specs and specs on all three devices. Unlike Samsung, which releases “Mini” versions of its phones, which are mid-range budget devices with overwhelming specs. It’s like the Galaxy S5 Mini that almost no one buys.

All three Sony Xperia Z5 smartphones for 2015 will come with the same powerful internal components, the only differences between the three will be the screen size and resolution and of course the size of the battery inside.

From the outside, all three phones are covered in matte black metal, with Gorilla Glass 4 on the front, similar to devices of the past, and again, they’re all IP68 dust and waterproof, not durable. This means they are very durable and not as capable as many other IP67 rated phones. However, this year the aluminum and glass phones come in White, Black, Gold and Turquoise Green colors.

Buyers looking for a “flagship” high-end smartphone without a big screen will definitely want to consider the new Sony Xperia Z5 Compact. Here’s everything we know about the new Z5.

Sony’s new smartphones have the same octa-core processor and 32GB of storage as last year’s Z4. , the camera and of course now the Xperia Z5 Premium.

All three of Sony’s impressive new devices feature the same powerful internal components as mentioned above, including the tiny Z5 Compact, which makes it one of the most powerful 4.6-inch smartphones on the planet.

Given that the new Xperia Z5 series looks a bit like the older models and has similar internals, users should be aware of a few big changes. In addition to a 4k UHD display and large batteries, there is a fingerprint scanner on the side and a very powerful camera on the back.

The entire Z5 series has three buttons on the side. A dedicated camera button, volume up/down button and power button. However, hidden inside the power button is a brand new fingerprint scanner that works like the Galaxy S6, Galaxy Note 5 and iPhone 6. This is a touch browser, not a swipe method that has proven to be inaccurate and frustrating for Galaxy Note 4 owners.

This will provide enhanced security for unlocking the device and will be even more useful when they receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update later this year.

Then of course we have an excellent new camera. Sony really touts the camera as one of the best on the market. It’s called a class-leading massive 23-megapixel sensor with image stabilization, a 0.3-second hybrid autofocus system, 5x clear zoom, 8x digital zoom, and a wide-angle 24mm lens. They have all the impressive camera features of Sony like Steadyshot, 4k video capture and even a 5 megapixel front camera.

Xperia Z5 Premium has one of the first 4k resolution displays to be released. It comes with a 5.5 inch 3840 x 2160 Ultra HD Display in phablet size with over 800 pixels per inch. We doubt that the naked eye can see how beautiful this really is, but we’ll judge until we try it ourselves.

It has the same metal design just like the others, but only comes in Black or White. The Z5 Premium also has a larger 3,430. mAh battery that promises up to two days of use on a single charge and of course supports Quick Charge.

With the regular base model still a premium flagship, smartphone owners get everything mentioned above, but comes with a 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080p HD display. Then of course the battery comes in at 2,900 which remains stylish despite being a smaller device mAh. This may not be the largest battery on the market, but it’s still larger than most batteries in this category. All three support Quick Charge 2.0 technology.

Galaxy S6 comes with 2,550 mAh battery and 3,000 on some big devices like Galaxy Note 5 and LG G4 mAh battery. This means that given the size and screen, the regular Xperia X5 should offer some of the best battery life on the market.

Then of course we have the extremely capable little Z5 Compact. This smartphone has all of the high-end features listed above, including a powerful 23-megapixel camera and fingerprint scanner, but it’s a tiny 4.6-inch 1280 x 720p HD Display. We were hoping for 1080p this time, but most likely it was a cost-saving move.

Xperia Z5 Compact still has the same octa-core processor, Android 5.1 Lollipop, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and more. The only other change it has is that the battery has been reduced to 2,700. mAhstill much more than most in this size category.

What we don’t know, however, is the price and release date. Sony promised these devices would launch in October, but didn’t have any additional details to share at this point.

That said, most likely the standard Z5 will come in around $550-700 like most flagship devices, but that’s pure speculation. We’ll learn more about a release date, US carrier support, and pricing in the near future. These are some of the best phones of 2015 that almost no one will buy in the US.
