iOS 9 is officially released today and will be available to all iPhone and iPad users, but what about the iOS 9 jailbreak? Here are three things you need to know about the iOS 9 jailbreak.
It’s been a pretty successful summer for the jailbreak community. An iOS 8.3 jailbreak was released in early June and an iOS 8.4 jailbreak was released late that month just hours after the iOS 8.4 update itself was released, making it one of the fastest jailbreaks we’ve seen in a while.
But Apple finally released the iOS 8.4.1 update which fixes the iOS 8.4 jailbreak from TaiG. Of course, those still using iOS 8.4.0 can jailbreak their devices, but after updating to iOS 8.4.1 it was game over. This will also be the case in iOS 9.
The good news is that iOS 9 has been in beta mode since early June when Apple first announced and released iOS 9. Exploit vulnerabilities they can use to jailbreak the new version of iOS.
If you’re wondering about the iOS 9 jailbreak, here are three things you need to know.
iOS 9 Jailbreak Status
There hasn’t been much action when it comes to the iOS 9 jailbreak, but that may be because the developers kept it a secret. However, a well-known jailbreak developer recently made fun of an iOS 9 jailbreak on YouTube.
iH8sn0w has successfully discovered an untether-completed iOS 9 jailbreak and even released a video to prove it’s legitimate.

That at least tells us that an iOS 9 jailbreak is possible. However, it’s also possible that Apple fixed and fixed a few more things after this video was released, which means developers may need to find another way around when iOS 9 is officially released.
Of course, iH8sn0w has not disclosed any of the exploits and will likely never disclose this information, but it at least proves that getting into iOS 9 probably won’t be that hard.
iOS 9 Jailbreak Version
Perhaps the thing jailbreakers are most curious about is when an iOS 9 jailbreak will be released, and the simple answer is “no one knows”.
Even the jailbreak developers themselves probably don’t know when they’re going to release an iOS 9 jailbreak because they need to create the jailbreak first, and who knows how long that will take.
The iOS 9 jailbreak version also needs to be released at the most opportune time. For example, iOS 9.1 is rumored to be released at some point when the iPad Pro is released in November. Jailbreak developers are likely to wait until iOS 9.1 is released before releasing an iOS 9 jailbreak to ensure Apple doesn’t fix the jailbreak in iOS 9.1 right away.
This was the case for iOS 8, as the developers did not release a jailbreak when iOS 8.2 was released, fearing that iOS 8.3 would be released soon, and did not want Apple to fix the vulnerabilities.
iOS 9 Jailbreak Features
Once an iOS 9 jailbreak is released, users will be able to do all sorts of fun things with their iPhones and iPads running iOS 9, but what really matters is what tweaks are available in the new version of iOS 9.
Unfortunately many jailbreak tweaks are not updated immediately when a new jailbreak is released because every tweak developer has to update their tweaks themselves to work on a newer iOS version, so once an iOS 9 jailbreak is released, many tweaks are possible. It may not be compatible outside the door.
The good news is that there may be more new tweaks to see in iOS 9. We’ve already written our wishlist for the jailbreak tweaks we’d like to see specific to iOS 9. Plus, there are a few jailbreak tweaks that Apple has included in iOS 9 by default.
