“It would have smashed you” – when Joe Rogan’s HONEST assessment causes former UFC fighter Brendan Schaub to reconsider his career decision

UFC commentator Joe Rogan and ancient warrior Brendan Shaub long time friends. The former UFC fighter was advised by the popular podcast host and veteran commentator to quit fighting and move on to a different career field.

In one of the episodes of the Fighter and The Kid podcast hosted by Brendan Schaub and fellow comedian Bryan Callen, UFC commentator Joe Rogan had one of the most honest conversations with Schaub about his fighting career. Losing to Travis Browne, Schaub convinced Rogan that Schaub would never be able to beat elite fighters like Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos.

Rogan on the podcast told his friend Schaub honestly that he believed it was too late to fight and that he should probably consider changing his career. “If you had a wrestling match with Cain Velasquez, how do you think you would do it?” Rogan asked Schaub. The ancient warrior replied, “I think people will be surprised.”

“No dear? You think so? I think you’d be surprised. I really did. I think it would blow you away. I say this as a friend and a man who loves you. I think he’s just on another level,” said Rogan, continuing to be brutally honest with the fighter. Rogan admitted to Brendan Schaub that he didn’t think he was a fighter fit for a championship.

Prior to the podcast, the UFC heavyweight came in two consecutive losses against two of its top heavyweight fighters, Travis Browne and Andrei Arlovski. Schaub retired after the Browne fight with a UFC career record of 6-5.

Joe Rogan believes Cain Velasquez is the greatest heavyweight of all time

When Joe Rogan said Cain Velasquez was going to “fuck” Brendan Schaub, he totally believed it. The UFC commentator believes the fighter from AKA (American Kickboxing Academy) in San Jose is the greatest heavyweight fighter of all time in the UFC. And Velasquez’s resume and his time at the UFC really support Rogan’s claims.

In Rogan’s book, one of the main reasons that made Cain Velasquez a great fighter was the cardio he did as a heavyweight. According to the podcast host, the former champion was a rare heavyweight fighter who could punch like a heavyweight and also act like a fighter from the lower weight classes. That’s what made Cain special for Joe Rogan.

“It made no sense. His cardio was great. When he was at his best, when people were talking about the greatest of all time, here’s something about the best. I put Cain in that category,” said Rogan on episode 117 of the JRE MMA podcast.
