Over the last few years Motorola has dominated the budget smartphone market, and they’re back in 2017 with the all-new Moto G5 Plus. An impressive smartphone with a big screen, good camera, fingerprint scanner and more for just $229. Now that it’s on sale, here’s what potential buyers need to know.
Essentially, Motorola lures buyers with a versatile premium smartphone but at an affordable price point. It offers a 5.2-inch Full 1080p HD display, an all-metal design, and a better camera than most would expect at this price point.
We’ll go over everything you need to know below. From all the features, pricing, carrier information and what to expect when the phone arrives. It’s not customizable like previous generations, but there are two models to choose from at different price points. Lets start.
Most buyers these days don’t want to spend $700 or more for a smartphone, and you don’t need it to get a good experience. And while the upcoming Galaxy S8 will be great, for a fraction of the price, the Moto G5 Plus is worth considering.
Moto G5 Plus Release Date
Motorola unveiled its new budget phone at the end of February, and we’ve been waiting for more details since then. Recently, they confirmed everything for potential buyers.
The Moto G5 Plus will be available online and in select stores from March 31. And as low $185 from Amazon, with ads or elsewhere for $229. This is a great deal. Users can pre-order now Motorola.com or retail stores like Best Buy or buy one anytime after March 31.
Moto G5 Plus Features and Features
So what makes this phone such a good deal and everyone is talking about? Well, everything when you consider it at the price point. It has the best camera in this price class, has a good size and is made of metal. For those interested, the full summary is here.
As you can see, it has a good list of features when you add the price tag. Enough delivery to meet the needs of almost all buyers without breaking the bank. It’s worth noting that the 2GB RAM and 32GB model costs $229, while the higher 4GB and 64GB storage costs $299. Either way, both have a microSD slot for storage expansion. So that shouldn’t be a problem either.
It may not have the latest processor, but the rest more than makes up for it. Not to mention the camera configuration similar to the award-winning Galaxy S7, but for an incredibly low price.
Moto G5 Plus Carrier Support
One question I get asked all the time has to do with carrier support. This phone is not sold by operators or on store shelves. Instead, it is sold completely unlocked from 3rd party retailers. However, it works with everyone.
Motorola continues to lead the charge on the unlocked smartphone front. Buy this instead of sticking to a contract or monthly payments. Then take it to Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint or regional carriers. It has 4G LTE support for everyone. Which is impressive.
Where Can You Buy the Moto G5 Plus?
As we said above, the Moto G5 Plus will be available through multiple channels from March 31. The first place is Motorola.com or Amazon. Amazon will put ads on the lock screen and will only get you $185 instead of $229. This is a good trade off for some.
That said, here are the places to buy the Moto G5 Plus and the links to place your order now.
Currently all retailers are either accepting pre-orders or have a page where users can come back and order on March 31st. And again, it will work with all carriers in the US, no matter where you buy it.
We’ve seen a lot of great budget smartphones released over the years. Like the OnePlus 3T or the upcoming OnePlus 5. But for now, the new Moto G5 Plus may offer the best bang for your buck.
