Google Maps keeps updating and welcoming new useful features. After bus delay estimates and estimated empty seats, Google’s newest feature allows users to to view nearby self-service bike stations, also to see in real time how many bikes are still empty at each station. You can also find out if a station is available near your destination, so you can leave the bike there.
Google Maps now shows nearby self-service bike stations
Bike-sharing services for Google are booming, as two wheels are changing the way people get from one point to another in cities around the world. Approximately 1,600 self-service bike systems and over 18 million shared bikes In urban centers around the world, the app is gaining in importance. Bicycles are practical, affordable, fun and above all an ecological means of transportation.
After several months of testing in New York City, the display of self-service bike stations on Google Maps is expanding to twenty additional cities in 16 countries. This feature resembles the display of electric car charging stations already available on Google Maps.
Cities where the feature is currently available for self-service bikes are:Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, Budapest, Chicago, Dublin, Hamburg, Helsinki, Kaohsiung, London, Los Angeles, Lyon, Madrid, Mexico City, Montreal, New Taipei City, New York, Rio de Janeiro, San Francisco Bay District of São Paulo, Toronto, Vienna, Warsaw and Zurich“.

Lyon is the only French city on the list. Google says more cities will be added very soon. To use the new feature, simply search for stations in the Google Maps search bar. The app displays what’s available near your current location.
