Google started rolling out the dark mode in Gmail with 2019.08.18.26044774, the latest version of the mail application available on the Play Store. For now, only Android 10 users seem to be affected. Those with an up-to-date Google Pixel can install the latest version of Gmail and check if the option is available. According to XDA Developers, a handful of users have received it so far.
Gmail finally gets dark theme on Android 10
Before releasing the stable version of Android 10, Google promised that all its apps would be put into Dark Mode for all OS versions. Google Photos, Chrome or Google Calendar. Others like Google Play Store and Gmail were still missing despite the release of the stable version of Android 10.
The dark theme in Gmail has been testing for several weeks. The general distribution began visibly. Several screenshots posted on Reddit confirm this. The option is enabled on the server side. Not everyone has this right yet, and Google’s methods are incomprehensible. When available, it can be enabled in General Gmail settings. Menu Theme appears first in the options.
If general distribution for Android 10 is confirmed, other versions of the operating system will soon receive Dark Mode. So we will still have to wait.
