“Three formats are many” – Quinton de Kock on not having space on his calendar despite retiring from Testing

South African veteran batsman and goalkeeper Quinton de Kock talked about how difficult it has become to play in three formats. He retired from Test cricket last year but that didn’t make room in his calendar as he chose to play in T20 leagues.

After the birth of her first child, she quit Test cricket, citing her desire to spend more time at home. But that never set him free.

“It hasn’t emptied my calendar—at least not this year,” De Kock said at his first press conference since leaving Tests. “I’m hooked on playing in a few leagues but that’s my own result. I’m happy to do it. It’s still a sacrifice, but I’m slowly coming to an age where I have to think about where I want to be in my career. As long as I can do it at my own pace, I’m happy.”

“I still want to win 50+ World Cups” – Quinton de Kock on the future of ODI

He stated that downgrading the format was the only option as it became harder to play each format.

“It’s going to be difficult for gamers – three formats is too many and it looks like there will be more games on the calendar,” he said. “Players should decide individually and if they feel they can do it. [play all three formats]I am happy for them. But men need to take decisions into their own hands. For me, I am happy where I am.”

“I want to say we need to play more games, but I don’t know where,” he said. “ [ODI] The game is going well for itself, with the players going and due to a batting and bowling rivalry. There is a future for this and most of us still want to win more than 50 World Cups. There is so much to play with,” he added.
