Google Photos is testing a subscription: Get your 10 best photos on paper every month

If there is one thing that comes up frequently, especially when we talk to our elders, it is the disappearance of paper photos. It is not surprising that the smartphone largely imposes itself on film cameras, as well as photo albums. Between Android and its more practical services than ever before, Google is at the forefront of this cultural shift. However, if some do very easily without a paper photo, others object that looking at photos on your smartphone is “not the same thing”.

Of course we can print them at home. But for best results it is better to suspect a dedicated printer. Or use online printing services. But in 2020, the use of print, whether at home or through online services, tends to mostly accompany important events and special occasions. For example, you will be more inclined to present a photo album at a wedding, on a birthday, to celebrate a diploma or to commemorate a trip.

Could this be a sign of Google’s remorse? The Californian firm is testing a subscription offer for Google Photos. Billed at $8, this option lets you get a dozen of your photos on paper each month. If you want the selection to include mostly faces (including those of your pets) or landscapes or even “a little bit of everything”, simply specify it in the app. Google’s AI does the rest.

But you still have the final say: If you don’t like a photo, you can change it. This quiz is for those who want to frame their photos or present them as gift guides. You must currently reside in the United States and take the test by invitation. What do you think about this service? Share your views in the comments.
