Joe Rogan discussed the UFC scoring rule with UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling on his latest podcast. Joe took the podcast and said that judges should consider whether the damage was substantial or ground control. There have been various inconsistencies in scoring a fight and what constitutes a winning performance. The main point of discussion has always been control against damage. Rogan filed a lawsuit for the damage and said, “Damage must be analyzed over a one-round check.”
Chael Sonnen gave his opinion on the matter and said he accepted Joe’s stance, saying: “I’m with Sterling and Joe and I’m well aware of what the rule is. I don’t know if I totally agree that Joe got it wrong and Sterling didn’t know the rule. Maybe they did… Now look, I’m well aware that you say the rule hurts control, but that’s highly speculative. That is very open to interpretation and how much damage precedes how much control.”
Chael pointed out that Aljamain won his last fight against Petr Yan by controlling Yan and not inflicting enough damage on him. Despite the lack of damage, Sterling won the fight, and Chael pointed out that simply counting hits may not be the most fair damage assessment.

“Not aware of score” – Joe Rogan criticized for comments on scoring change
Joe Rogan has faced criticism from various sports analysts for his recent comments on changes to the UFC’s scoring rules. Joe is one of the leading personalities in MMA and many analysts are upset that they are not aware of the Judging criteria. Rogan has been part of the UFC since UFC 12 in 1997 and is the promotion’s star color commentator for the pay-per-view in the US.

Many other analysts, such as Luke Thomas of Showtime Sports, also criticized Joe Rogan, saying it was unfortunate that sports personalities were not familiar with the rules of the sport.
