Samsung kept the Galaxy Beta Program exclusive to Galaxy S models. Not this time.
The company ported the Android Pie beta to the Galaxy Note 9 in late 2018, and now the update is rolling out to its two former flagships, the Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S8.
Samsung’s Android 9.0/One UI beta gives Galaxy S8 users in select regions a chance to try the software before its official release date. The company hasn’t set a specific date, but roadmaps point to a release in February or March.
Signing up for the Galaxy S8 Android Pie beta is easy and the fastest way to get the latest Android Pie. Beta testers are in first place for the official release.
If you own a Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ and want to join the Android Pie beta, here are the steps to take.
How to Join Galaxy S8 Pie Beta
If you want to try the Android Pie beta on your Galaxy S8, you need to download it. Samsung Members application known as Samsung+ in North America. Download the app from the Galaxy Apps store or Google Play store.
If you already have Samsung Members or the Samsung+ app installed on your device, you need to download the latest version to get Pie beta support.
After installing the appropriate app you will want to launch it and check to see if there is a banner advertising the Galaxy S8/Galaxy S8+ Android Pie beta.
Tap on that title and at this point you have to submit an application form to access the beta. If the beta isn’t live in your region, you won’t see any of them yet.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 Android Pie beta is currently available in India but we expect it to roll out in other regions in the coming days.
You will also need a Samsung account to try the beta. If you do not have a Samsung account, you must create one. Samsung’s website to progress.
After signing up for the Galaxy S8 Android Pie beta, go to your device’s Settings. Once inside, go to Software update > download updates to bring the beta to your device.
We strongly recommend that you back up your files before pressing download. You can use Samsung’s Smart Switch or Samsung Cloud to do so. You will also want to download the latest app updates for your apps to work properly while running the beta.
Once you have the Android Pie beta installed on your phone, you should report bugs and performance to Samsung so that it can improve the software before it’s released to millions of Galaxy S8 users this year.
