Google One comes to Android, all your backups in one place

Google One, a paid online storage service, is designed to replace Google Drive. The transition from Drive to One began in 2018 and continues to slowly expand to cover all content types. First office files and emails. Then photos and videos (with the not-so-popular removal of the free backup). And finally smartphone backup management (preferences, passwords, SMS, contact, call log, etc.).

Google One consolidates Android’s backup system

However, Google One was not the default online storage for backups of Android smartphones. Now this is the situation (from version 8.0). Google is currently rolling out an OS update that will modernize this service and defragment all files in Google One. Now that Google One is integrated into the settings menu, you can choose to save your contacts, SMS, photos, videos, passwords, configuration files of your apps and even mms…

Of course, you won’t need to create an account on Google One or pay for a subscription (One is paid, Free option limited to 15GB, as in Drive). No one will be left out. However, 15GB is a relatively small space. Especially since it’s not cumulative with Google Drive. Therefore, it may be in your best interest to limit backup options (or buy a subscription, etc.).

This transition has two benefits. he first makes it easy to back up a smartphone : one place to store everything. And the configuration is simpler too. Then he also simplifies restoration. To find the same smartphone, connect to Google One and get an archive. Much easier than the current method (see our video tutorial below). Finally, remember that the deployment is gradual. But the firm should be finished in the coming weeks.
