Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Hangouts etc. Video conferencing applications such as video conferencing are now becoming more important than ever. You can attend your meetings from anywhere in the world. Fortunately, these apps took care of the small details in their implementation. While too many people using it is absolutely great, it can be overwhelming. Fortunately, most of these apps offer a mute option. In this article, we will tell you how to mute yourself and others on the Zoom mobile app on your phone.
Organizing virtual meetings and webinars wouldn’t be an easy task if the mute option wasn’t there. Imagine voices and random noises coming from everyone’s microphones at the same time. It would be a mess.
But, fortunately, you can mute and unmute people in Zoom calls on your Android and iPhone. Let’s see how to do this.
note: Unless otherwise noted, the steps are the same for Android and iPhone.
How to Mute Zoom Call Before Joining a Meeting on the Phone
If you want to turn off the sound from the beginning, Zoom offers an option for that. To join a meeting, tap Join in the Zoom app. Next, enable the toggle next to Connect to Audio. This will mute your voice in the meeting right from the start.

Keep Zoom Calls on Silence on Phone All the Time
In the above method, you have to tap on disable audio every time you join a meeting. What if you are automatically muted every time you attend a meeting? Does it sound interesting? Check out the steps below to achieve the same.
Stage 1: Launch the Zoom app on your Android or iPhone.
Step 2: Tap on the Settings option at the bottom. Tap on Meeting in Settings.

Stage 3: Enable the toggle next to Always Mute My Microphone.
Note: You can unmute your voice in a meeting as shown below.

How to Mute and Unmute Yourself on Zoom Calls on the Phone
Zoom has made it pretty easy to mute and unmute yourself during a meeting. Tap your screen to show the options available for it. Then tap Mute to disable your sound. When you do this, the button turns red. Now, tap on the Unmute icon, which replaces Mute, to unmute it.

How to Mute Others in a Zoom Call
There are two ways to approach this – mute all participants and mute the speaker.
1. Mute All Participants in Zoom Call
If you are the host of a Zoom meeting, you have the authority to mute and unmute participants during the call. You can mute all participants or manually select the participants you want to mute.
To do this, follow these steps on Android and iPhone:
Stage 1: Launch the Zoom application and create a meeting.
Step 2: Tap the Attendees tab at the bottom. You will be directed to the participant list.

Stage 3: Tap on Mute all at the bottom. Doing so silences everyone. If you want to unmute everyone, tap Unmute All. Confirm on the next screen.

note: If you don’t want attendees to unmute themselves, uncheck ‘Allow attendees to unmute themselves’. Only after that you can unmute the participants and they cannot do it themselves.
If you only want to mute or unmute a specific person, tap the participant’s name. Then select Mute or Unmute from the menu.

Note: If the attendee mutes themselves and you unmute them, they’ll get a notification that the host wants to unmute them. They will be silenced only if they allow it.
Alternatively, if you want to mute participants from the beginning of the meeting, tap the three-dot icon at the bottom of the meeting screen and go to Meeting Settings.

Enable Mute on login.

2. Disable Speaker During Zoom Call
If you are a participant in a meeting, you do not have the right to mute the others. However, you can disable your speaker in the Zoom app to reduce the incoming sound during a call. To hear the sound, you need to bring your phone close to your ear.
To use this feature, tap the speaker icon in the upper left corner in a Zoom meeting. Tap on it again to disable it.

To do this on Android, go to your phone’s Settings > Apps. Tap Zoom, then tap Permissions. Grant microphone permission.
