The NFL committee recently made a big decision to finally introduce a change to the Overtime rules. The rule has come under serious criticism multiple times over the past few years, with neither team finally getting a chance to win.
However, with the rule change, both teams will have the ball only in the end of season games. The previous rule that allowed the team with the first ball to win in the event of a touchdown will remain unchanged.
Patrick Mahomes has been on both sides of the coin toss in previous playoff seasons.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes faced extra time in several games last season. He was somewhat sidelined when deciding on the modified rule, as he faced both sides where his side won the coin toss.
“Your job is to find a way to win the game, no matter how long it takes.” mahomes told Yahoo Finance.
“I’m sure there will be moments when you feel it was a good decision.” said Mahomes. “But then there will be moments when you score the first goal and you feel it’s bad. So go there and play and try to win the game no matter what.”
Patrick Mahomes argued that despite the rule change, the sides still needed to play well to win the game to their side. The quarterback felt that the decision would feel good in some situations, but not always, if the teams weren’t able to maintain their lead after scoring a goal first.
Recently, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin also seemed to be on the fence talking about the modified Overtime rules.
