Sri Lanka will host the 2022 Asian Cup between August and September

From 27 August to 11 September Sri Lanka will host the 2022 Asian Cup, which will be a T20 competition on this occasion. The dates and host were announced after the General Assembly held between the member states on Saturday. A Test team from each of the five participating countries (Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh) will play at this event, along with another Asian team, which will be determined after a qualifying tournament on August 20. The Asian Cup, usually alternating between ODI and T20I formats, was last played in 2018 and was won by India. But the pandemic has forced the 2020 edition to be delayed.

The 2020 edition was scheduled to be hosted by Sri Lanka, but Covid-19 pushed the event to 2021 before the Final eventually moved to 2022. Originally scheduled to host the 2022 Asian Cup, Pakistan is now the edition to host 2023. Sixth place in the qualifier will go to the UAE, Kuwait, Singapore or Hong Kong, and each participating team will take their place if they take first or second place. ACC Regional events in 2020.

Since the first Asian Cup was held in Sharjah in 1984, the upcoming tournament will be its 15th edition. Defending champions India are the most successful team to win seven times, including the T20I edition alone in 2016. Sri Lanka has won five times.

Jay Shah’s tenure as ACC president extended by one year

BCCI secretary Jay Shah was unanimously elected during the General Assembly to serve for another year as President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) until 2024. Shammi Silva, head of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), had proposed an extension of the Shah and was unanimously approved by all other members. ACC wrote on Twitter:

Shah took over as chairman of the ACC from Nazmul Hassan, chairman of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in January 2020. His mandate will continue until the council’s 2024 AGM. Mahinda Vallipuram of the Malaysian Cricket Association was appointed chairman of the development committee, while Pankaj Khimji of the Oman Cricket Board was appointed vice-chairman of the ACC.
