With each new Android version, more emojis are added to our smartphones and tablets. With the release of Android Q, users will be able to enjoy more than 60 exciting new characters to express themselves.
To celebrate the 17th of July, World Emoji Day, Google confirmed At least 65 new emojis are currently available on Android Q and will be available to users later this year. Or if you’re testing something with the Android Q beta, they’re live right now.
As you can see, Google is adding some cool new emojis to Android that users have been requesting for a while. Cute Sloth, who is always late or slow-moving for your friend, like band-aids, pets, axes, and even kneeling people of all skin colors. And we can’t forget the waffles, because now we have waffles.
In fact, the Unicode Consortium earlier this year published List of 200+ emoji candidates for 2019. The list included several different emojis of people and couples of different skin tones, a waffle, service animals, people in a wheelchair, and the much anticipated white heart emoji.
New Emoji for Android Q
Google specifically mentioned 65 new emojis during its announcement, but this version actually adds a lot more to Android as a whole. They had something to say:
“Android Q will also bring 71 multi-skin pairs to devices and support 53 gendered emoji designs where Unicode does not specify gender.”
The example states that the police emoji is usually a man, while the “haircut” emoji is usually a woman, which can reinforce gender stereotypes. With this update, the gender-neutral emoji will default to a gender-neutral design on Android, or users will have the option to choose the gender and, in most cases, the skin tone. Basically, you’ll have more options than ever before.
Google is currently testing Android Q update and it is in beta version 5. If you’re in beta, you’ll see these new emojis today.
