OnePlus 8 Pro vs Pixel 4 XL: What you need to know

Impressive phones like the OnePlus 8 Pro and Galaxy S20 will be on the market soon, and buyers will have some tough choices to make. And while there are already excellent phones like Google’s Pixel 4XLyou may want to wait for the new OnePlus 8 Pro.

In this OnePlus 8 Pro and Pixel 4 XL comparison, we’ll go over everything we know so far, examine how the specs compare and break down the latest details, and instead help you decide whether to buy the Pixel now or not.

OnePlus will release several different versions of the OnePlus 8 this year, all with different screen sizes and prices. Although the Pixel 4 comes in two sizes, this makes the choice difficult for buyers. Here’s how they compare and a few key details.

Both of these phones run almost stock Android and get super-fast updates, but that’s all. Everything else related to the screen, cameras, battery and specs is very different. Note that some of this information may change between now and the expected March or April OnePlus 8 release date.

As you can see, these two phones are very different. Not only in the general view, but also inside. The OnePlus 8 Pro is closer to the Samsung Galaxy, while the Pixel 4 XL is closer to a mid-range phone.

They both have beautiful high-resolution displays, but the size and refresh rates look very different, as with pretty much anything else. Given that the OnePlus 8 is newer, it makes sense that it has a few upgrades, but when you add them to the Pixel 4 XL’s dual camera or small battery and it’s easy to see that the OnePlus 8 Pro is clearly worth the wait.

Looking at the page above, you’ll see that the OnePlus 8 has a bigger and better display, more storage and RAM, a faster processor for better performance, a significantly larger battery, and faster charging when the phone dies. Don’t get me wrong, the Pixel 4 XL is a fast phone with great performance and a very capable camera, but so are other devices on the market.

Similar to Google, we expect a cheaper version of the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro to have 64GB of storage, followed by another model with 128GB for $100 more – which is what most phones should have. Especially considering it doesn’t offer a MicroSD slot for storage expansion.

The biggest differences between these phones will be the screen, battery life and camera experience. So, break down these areas with more information for you below.

Pixel 4 XL and OnePlus 8 Pro: Design and Image

Screen size and notch are probably the most important part of your buying decision. Well, except maybe the cameras and the price tag. You’ll quickly notice that the OnePlus 8 Pro has a large edge-to-edge display with almost no bezels, while the Pixel 4 has some bezels at the bottom and an even larger one at the top.

OnePlus 8 Pro is ALL screen on the front. There’s no notch and there’s a tiny little circle in the top left where they cut a point off the screen for the front camera. OnePlus ditched the pop-up camera this year and didn’t want a notch, opting instead to punch a small hole in the screen, similar to Samsung’s latest phones. It’s a beautiful design as you can see from our photos here.

Hiding under that big OnePlus 8 Pro screen is also an in-display fingerprint scanner. The phone takes a photo from the screen of your fingerprint, confirms and unlocks. For what it’s worth, the Pixel 4 XL has no fingerprint sensor and only relies on face unlock or a passcode/pin.

As for Google’s Pixel 4 XL, no one liked the big notch on the 3XL, so Google went back to 2017 and brought the forehead back to the top of the screen. The top of the phone has a large black bezel for the cameras, sensors, face unlock and speaker. There are no nicks or cutouts, but there is a bezel. That said, the rest of the screen is edge-to-edge and looks pretty good.

Another big area where OnePlus wins is the 120Hz refresh rate. This means the screen is refreshed 120 times per second, twice as fast and smooth as older devices. But last year Google switched from 60Hz to 90Hz so it’s better, but not as good as the OnePlus 8 Pro would be.

As for the rest of the design, they’re both massive premium phones made of metal and glass, covering both the front and back glass. They are fragile, have cameras protruding from the back, and are large. The crazy thing is that the OnePlus 8 Pro isn’t physically much larger thanks to the small bezels, so don’t worry about it being too big to hold and use.

Pixel 4 XL and OnePlus 8 Pro: Cameras

Next, we want to talk briefly about the cameras on both of these phones as they will be a strong suit and selling point for the Pixel 4 XL, albeit older. At least we think it will.

Both the OnePlus 8 Pro and Pixel 4 XL have multiple cameras on the back, but the OnePlus 8 has four compared to the Pixel.

We all know what to expect from Google’s Pixel 4 camera experience. They didn’t go for 3-4 cameras like all competitors and instead use software to make photos look great. And to be honest, the Pixel 4 XL still takes some of the best photos on any smartphone. However, the software can’t take wide-angle photos or zoom in very far without blurring and looking bad.

Leaks and sources suggest that OnePlus will use a massive upgraded 60MP main camera for everyday photos and video, then use a similar setup to previous models for telephoto zoom, wide-angle photos and more. Yes, there are four cameras on the back overall. A prime lens, zoom lens, wide angle and a ToF for depth sensing.

If we had to guess, the Pixel 4 XL will still take better photos, but you’ll have more options and control than the OnePlus 8 Pro. At the same time, this may finally be the year OnePlus takes cameras to the next level, so we’ll have to wait and see.

Pixel 4 XL and OnePlus 8 Pro: Battery Life and Charging

Perhaps the weakest link for Google’s Pixel 4 XL (apart from the display) is poor battery life. He praised the phone in almost every online review, but hated that Google chose such a small battery, especially when literally every other manufacturer and all competitors have bigger batteries in their phones.

Here are the numbers that show the OnePlus 8 Pro will do better in this category. Also, the 8 Pro features the company’s WARP fast charging technology, which will charge almost twice as fast as the Pixel.

We won’t know more about battery life until the OnePlus 8 Pro arrives, and we’ll see how much of an impact the larger screen 120Hz and 5G have overall. We’ll post the results here when we can test it.

Pixel 4 XL and OnePlus 8 Pro: 5G Connectivity and Carrier Support

You’re unlikely to be familiar with OnePlus phones, and that’s because until 2020, it only sold T-Mobile devices in the United States. If you wanted one, you had to buy it online or switch to T-Mobile. That’s all about to change, which will help them compete not only with Google’s Pixel, but also with Samsung and Apple.

Last year, Google finally got the four major US carriers to offer the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. Before that it was only available on Verizon, which hurt sales. Both brands realized that they should offer 5G and have it on the shelves of every major carrier.

All in all, we’re hearing that the OnePlus 8 Pro will be the first OnePlus phone to be available on Verizon Wireless and will come with 5G. We don’t know if 5G is optional, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction.

We don’t know if every carrier will offer the OnePlus 8 Pro or just Verizon and T-Mobile. Either way, it will be available unlocked and will work on AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and worldwide. The Pixel 4 XL is currently available on every major carrier, but without 5G.

Honestly, 5G isn’t a big concern or selling point yet, but if you plan to keep your next phone for more than a year, you’ll want 5G. Basically, get the OnePlus 8 Pro as it’s future-proofed.

Release Date and Pricing

As we just said, you can get the Pixel 4 XL just about anywhere and at huge discounts. even bigger Pixel 4 XL is now under $800 at Amazon. It’s still a great phone, but with many new devices on the way, we recommend holding off.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any exact information on a OnePlus 8 Pro release date yet, but we have an opinion based on previous years. We believe OnePlus will likely announce the OnePlus 8 in late March or early April, and the . The OnePlus 7 came out in May, following a launch event in March.

You can get a Pixel 4 XL right now, wait for the OnePlus 8 Pro, or even get a Galaxy S20 in March.

If there’s one area where OnePlus continues to dominate the competition, which is why it’s a growing brand in the US and worldwide, it’s in pricing. As you can see above, last year the OnePlus 7 Pro was just $669, compared favorably with the $1,000 Galaxy S10+. We expect something similar here in 2020. Here is our estimate for this year’s pricing.

This new model will be expensive, but no more expensive than the Pixel 4 XL, making it an instant great value considering all it has to offer. Additionally, OnePlus usually offers a model with $100 more RAM and storage, making the 12GB RAM and 128GB OnePlus 8 Pro just $799, which is cheaper than the base Pixel 4 XL.

Basically, you’re going to want to wait and buy one of OnePlus’ new phones. We hear they’ll have the OnePus 8 Lite for around $449, followed by a regular OnePlus 8 that’s cheaper than the ones described above. However, we can only get the Pro model in the United States.
