American big service giant Reilly Opelka defended the actions of compatriot Frances Tiafoe at the recently concluded Laver Cup. Teaming up with Jack Sock to tackle Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in their farewell match, Tiafoe fired towards Nadal and Federer during the match.
Tiafoe tossed the winners towards Federer, who was standing at the head of the net. The Swiss maestro fended off the victorious victors from Tiafoe and didn’t mind his use of these disgruntled tactics. While both Federer and Nadal took the incident lightly, fans on social media were upset at Tiafoe’s antics and found her actions unnecessary.
One of the fans expressed concern that Tiafoe’s behavior was unnecessary and somewhat disrespectful to Federer, who was playing his last professional game. “While I’m a Frances Tiafoe fan, I found it a little odd that Roger was trying to kick both Roger and Rafa as hard as he could in the final moments of his career. He is a professional and the entire court is open. Dots in a row? I’m not even sure Kyrgios would do that.” The fan tweeted.
Reilly Opelka took to Twitter to express his disgust at such thoughts, describing it as a joke. “You can’t really make these things up, is this definitely a joke?” Opelka tweeted.
