YouTube Music Shuffle List is one of my favorite features of YouTube Music. You get an endless supply of your favorite songs, and the artificial intelligence in the app allows the songs to be tuned to your liking (like Peter Quill’s Awesome Mix Vol 1).
The good thing is, when you discover a new song, you can immediately add it to your favorite playlist or download it for offline listening.
In this post, we’ve compiled the best tips and tricks for YouTube Music Shuffle to help you get the most out of this music streaming app.
Let’s see.
1. Build Your Shuffle List Carefully
The personalized Mixtape in the upper left corner of your homepage contains songs you listen to often or similar to them. But at the end of the day, it’s not a foolproof method and in some cases it adds songs you might not like.
If you come across such songs, hit the Like button. Likes and dislikes for music tracks allows the player to build the mixtape to your taste. And the more Likes and Dislikes you get, the more customized your mixtape will be.
But keep in mind that YouTube Music has a 5,000 limit to create a playlist of your favorite songs. So if you hit this limit, it will prevent the algorithm from picking up your choices. Fortunately, there is a way to change Liked songs.
To do this, open the Library tab and tap on Favorite songs. Here you will see all the songs you have liked in the past, including the music videos you have previously enjoyed through the YouTube app. Now tap on the three-dot button next to the song you want to delete from the list and select Remove.
Besides mixtapes, you can download full playlists or individual songs. For playlists, tap the little Download icon below the name. For individual songs, tap the three-dot menu and hit Download.

2. Enable Offline Shuffle List
Offline Shuffle aka Smart Downloads is perhaps the second best feature after YouTube Music Shuffle. This will download a list of your favorite songs. The more you listen to new songs, the more diverse their content will be.
When you connect to a Wi-Fi network, the app refreshes the music daily. Yes, no manual intervention is required.
However, Smart Downloads are not enabled by default on YouTube Music. To enable it, go to Library > Downloads and press the Turn On button.
The shuffle list will be downloaded automatically based on your music taste and listening history. You can find it in Library > Downloads.

3. Increase the Number of Songs in the Offline Shuffle List
By default, YouTube Music’s Mixtape downloads 250 songs, roughly 1.8GB in size. Fortunately, there is a neat way to increase this number.
To do this, tap on the Settings icon and you will see a slider under Smart downloads. All you have to do is move the slider to the right. You will see the amount of space the offline shuffle list will occupy.
Currently, YouTube Music allows you to download up to 500 songs. Make sure you’re connected to Wi-Fi if you have a limited data plan and enough battery on your device.
4. Delete Songs from Offline Shuffle List
Offline Shuffle List is a charm, yes. However, it often adds songs that you may not like. This is especially true if you listen to the same songs over and over again without any action (read, like or dislike).
To remove songs from offline shuffle, open them via Downloads and find the song. Now swipe left and tap Uninstall. Simple.
Note that if you listen to the song again in the future, the algorithm is more likely to add the song back to the mixtape.
5. Add Songs to Offline Shuffle
Adding songs to YouTube Music’s Offline shuffle is not as simple as the steps above. There is no mechanism in the streaming service that lets you add songs to your liking, at least for now.
Normally, if you vote for a song or listen to it often, there is a chance that it will go to the mixtape thanks to the app’s machine-language algorithm.
At the same time, keep in mind that if you keep listening to the same old songs over and over, the randomization algorithm is gone for a shot. That way you won’t discover any songs and that will eventually be reflected in your offline shuffle.
Search and listen to a new album once in a while. Considering that YouTube is a melting pot for new and old artists alike, this shouldn’t be a big deal.
Also note that the song recommendation doesn’t change overnight.
6. Repeat Songs in Mixtapes
The Shuffle button is next to the Play button, right next to the playlist. But where is the Repeat button? I bet you’ve already asked this question. But I can assure you it’s there, albeit a bit hidden.
After you open your offline shuffle list, select the song you want to play. Now, pull up the little info card at the bottom showing the next song and tap on the Repeat icon. Ta-da!
